Description

In the 1960's, the Chevrolet Impala was America's best-selling car by far. Impala's appeal was far-reaching. It could be a sensible family sedan or spacious wagon, a sporty hardtop, a striking convertible or a storming, big-block Super Sport. In 1966, the Impala SS was face-lifted with a revised grille and new rectangular taillights that replaced the triple round units. A chrome beltline strip shared with regular Impalas was added in response to complaints about door dings on the clean-lined 1965s. Inside were new Strato bucket seats with thinner and higher seatbacks, and a center console with an optional gauge package available. Sales of the 1966 Impala SS dropped by more than 50% to around 117,000 units; this was mainly due to the sport/performance car market switching from full-sized models to intermediates (including Chevy's own Chevelle SS396 and Pontiac GTO), along with the emerging market for the even smaller pony car market created by the Ford Mustang in 1964 that Chevrolet would respond to with the Camaro for 1967.The car you see here comes finished in the original colors of Danube Blue with Blue interior. With a big block 396 under the hood, the car has all of the looks of an SS without the price tag. The car was repainted a few years ago and is still in very good condition with no notable imperfections to the paint. There is some bubbling on the back corners of the hood. The rest of the car appears to be solid. The front and rear bumpers are both in great condition and have a very good shine to them. Inside, the interior is mostly new and is finished in the original colors of blue. The seats have all been recovered and look great as well as the new carpet. Door panels, kick panels and headliner are all in very good condition as well. This is a bucket seat car with console. The dash is original for the car and includes an original AM radio. Steering wheel is showing a bit of cracking. This is an original A/C car but it is currently not blowing. Under the hood, the 396 Cu In Big Block runs great and starts with a turn of the key. This is a great driving car connected to the automatic transmission which shifts as it should. This is a very original car that has never had any major modifications ever done to it. In the engine compartment, the engine compartment and motor are both very clean. Options under the hood include power steering, power brakes and A/C. VIN number is 164376D102528 and the current mileage shows 41,806.
