Description

The Thunderbird was revised for 1957 with a reshaped front bumper, a larger grille and tailfins, and larger tail lamps. The 312 cu in V8 became the Thunderbird's standard engine and now produced 245 horsepower. Other, even more powerful versions of the 312 cu in V8 were available including one with two four-barrel Holley carburetors and another with a Paxton supercharger delivering 300 horsepower. Though Ford was pleased to see sales of the Thunderbird rise to a record-breaking 21,380 units for 1957, company executives felt the car could do even better, leading to a substantial redesign of the car for 1958.The car you see here is a wonderfully restored example that has just benefitted from a new paint job. The car comes with the original factory invoice that shows the total vehicle cost was $3,084.03. Original options include black soft top, Ford O Matic Drive transmission, heater and defroster, Signal Seek Radio and Rear Fender Shields. There have also been chrome wire wheel installed that look great. The paint on the car is in great condition and has been done in the last year. The body was very solid before paint with little body work having to be done. The original fender skirts look great and go off and on with no problems. Both front and rear chrome bumpers are in very good condition with only minimal pitting showing. Both retain a great shine and luster. The port hole hard top looks great and goes on and off with no issues. The white soft top is equally as nice. Inside, the black and white vinyl bench seat is in very good condition as well as the newer black carpet. The dash is solid with only a few scrapes on the glove box. Gauges are all in good working order as well as the lights, blinkers and wipers. Under the hood, the 312 Cu In V8 is extremely clean and shows no damage to the engine bay. The car starts and drives with no issues and goes down the road smooth on its BF Goodrich white wall radials. There have been chrome wire wheels installed but there is a center cap missing on one of the wheels. In the trunk you will find a full set of original steel wheels along with a full size spare and jack. VIN number is D7FH120135 and the current mileage shows 41,304. The car is being sold on a clean Texas title where the car has been for most of its life.
