Description

Built for just two model years, the wagon is the least common of all the Corvair body styles, accounting for less than two percent of the model's 10-year production run. Add up all the Corvair wagons ever built, in three series, and you get 33,271--which is less than the total of 700-series sedans built in 1962 alone. The Lakewood was added to the Corvair lineup for the 1961 model year, joining the coupe and sedan. It was initially offered in two series: the entry-level 500, and the more up market 700. When the wagon returned in 1962, it had lost the Lakewood name, and the 500 model had been dropped in favor of a new, sporty Monza wagon. Despite its practicality, the wagon was never a big hit with Corvair buyers; although Chevrolet had aimed its economical, air-cooled compact squarely at the Volkswagen market, buyers preferred to think of it as a sporty car. When the Corvair convertible was introduced in the middle of the 1962 model year, the wagon was killed off, its market niche filled by the new Chevy II wagon. This 1962 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Station Wagon comes finished in the original color of Roman Red and is an incredibly rare 4 speed version. With only 64,645 original miles, the car is a true time capsule. This car was purchased out of a very prominent Chevrolet Collection in 2006. Once it was purchased the car was mechanically sorted out and had thousands spent going through it. The suspension has been rebuilt with new upper and lower ball joints and new shocks all around. A new steering box was also installed along with rear axle bearings, new fuel lines, all new fluids throughout the car, new u-joints, shifter linkage, belts, wheel bearings, wheel cylinders, brake shoes and brake drums. A new clutch was installed as well as a complete R&R of the engine. The paint on the car is in good condition with no major imperfections but it is showing some checking on the hood and in a few small places around the car. The car has had one repaint in its life. The trim and bumpers all look original and in very good condition. No damage showing to any of the bright work. Inside, the seats are in very good condition and only shows some split seams on the passenger seat. There has been new carpet installed which looks great. The steering wheel is solid as well as the dash which matches the exterior of the car. Under the rear hatch you will find the 102 horsepower six cylinder. Connected to the four speed manual transmission, the car drives great and goes down the road with no issues. We've driven the car around 40 miles with no issues and found that it draws more attention then nearly everything on the road. The underside is solid all of the tires are in very good condition. The wheel covers are correct for the car and show no curb rash or damage. Mileage currently shows 64,650 and the VIN number is 20935W218946. The car is being sold on a clean Illinois title showing that the previous owner had the car since 2006 when they purchased it out of the Collection. The car also comes with a signed document certifying the miles to be correct and original for the car.
