When it came time to replace the 1949-1951 Airflyte Ambassador, seen too many as a 'bathtub on wheels,' Nash Motors went to Italy, to Pininfarina, for design help. The result was the 1952 Ambassador that lasted for three model years. For 1955, Pininfarina was asked to update its own wraparound windshield, concave grille and multi-color paint scheme.The Nash Statesman was the lower-priced version of the two main Nash Motors' automobile series, and was priced below the top-line Nash Ambassador. Although the Statesman's interior cabin was nearly identical to that of the Ambassador, upholstery and trim materials were plainer in design and less expensive. Mechanically, the Statesman's wheelbase was substantially shorter than the Ambassador's, which was achieved by using a shorter front clip. The car you see here is said to be a 25,000 original mile car that has never undergone any kind of major restoration. The paint on the car appears to be the original Grenadier Red and Frost White and still looks very good after 55+ years. The white paint on the front of the car has a few rock chips from age which is expected but looks good overall. The same goes for the Grenadier Red which only shows a few minor blemishes. All of the chrome retains a great shine and luster as well as the stainless trim surrounding the car. Inside, the seats appears to have been recovered and are both in great condition. There is a minor stain to the front seat on the passenger side as you can see in the photos but overall they are in great condition. The door panels are equally as nice as it the headliner which shows no rips or tears. The dash looks nearly perfect with no broken knobs or cracks to the glass. All gauges are in good working order.Under the hood the inline six cylinder runs great and is believed to be the original engine (DB8017). Connected to the three speed manual transmission, the car drives as it did back in '56. The engine compartment is very clean with no damage to show. In the trunk you will find a full size spare as well as a jack and the original lining. With brand new bias ply tires all around, the car is a joy to drive. The underside is very solid and shows no undercoating to hide rust or rot. This is a wonderful driving, original car that is rarely seen. Especially with these miles.
