Description

The Karmann Ghia was internally designated the Type 14. Volkswagen later introduced a variant in 1961, the Type 34 - featuring angular bodywork and based on the newly introduced Type 3 platform.Production doubled soon after its introduction, becoming the car most-imported into the United States.American industrial designer Walter Dorwin Teague selected the Type 14 for his list of the world's most beautifully designed products. Over 445,000 Karmann Ghias were produced in Germany over the car's production life - not including the Type 34 variant. Karmann Brazil produced 41,600 cars locally for South America between 1962 and 1975. In 1970, larger taillights integrated the reversing lights and larger wrap-around turn signals. Still larger and wider taillights increased side visibility and at the same time large square-section bumpers replaced the smooth round originals. This beautifully restored 1972 Karmann Ghia has been with the same owner since 1992 in the state of Pennsylvania and is a great driving little VW convertible. The car has benefitted from an older restoration that included new paint and interior. The paint is in good overall condition but does show a few spots of touchup around the car. The black soft top goes up and down with no issues and is in good condition with the exception of one tear to the back, drivers side below the window. This can be seen in the photos. The front and rear chrome bumpers are in very good condition with no major pitting. Inside, the white vinyl seats are in very good condition with no rips or tears to either of them. The red carpet is older but in very good condition with no major signs of wear. The same goes for the door panels and kick panels. The dash is solid and the wood grain dash looks great. There is no buckling or splits to the dash. All gauges are in good working order with the exception of the clock. The AM/FM radio, lights and blinkers all work with no problems as well as the wipers. Under the front hood, the storage area has been nicely carpeted to match the interior. The engine is said to be the original for the car and runs great. There has been a newer generator installed along with new air filters, distributor and wires. Connected to the four speed manual transmission, the car is a blast to drive. Put the top down and enjoy the beautiful spring weather with this little Karmann Ghia! The underside is very solid with no holes we have seen to the floors. The mileage currently shows 89,676 and is said to be original for the car. VIN number is 1422249716 and the car is being sold on a clean Pennsylvania title.
