Description

Three series of Fords continued into 1954, with Mainlines being the base models, Customlines in the middle and Crestlines on top. Customlines lost the three-passenger Business Coupe in favor of a six-passenger Club Coupe and a four-door Country Sedan station wagon. Following previous practice, Mainline Fords were the most basic, with standard features such as the naturally back-lit "Astra-Dial Control Panel" speedometer, a driver's sun visor, a horn button, rubber floor mats and cotton-padded seat cushions. Customlines added a passenger sun visor, steering wheel horn ring, front and rear armrests and foam rubber seat cushions. Crestlines spoiled their owners with robe cords, a two-tone instrument panel, deluxe exterior and interior trim and front and rear carpeting. Among the changes for '54 was the switch from Ford's long-serving "flathead" V-8 to a completely modern short-stroke overhead-valve mill. Dubbed the "Y-block" because of its deep crank-case, it displaced the same 239.4 cubic inches as the engine it replaced, but generated 130 horsepower, 20 more than its forebear. It would grow larger and more powerful over the next few years. This was also the year that ball-joint front suspension, already proven in Lincolns, was adopted to improve ride and handling. It was accompanied by a half-inch wheelbase extension. The resulting 115.5-inch wheelbase would serve Fords through 1956. The car you see here is a wonderfully restored 1954 Ford Customline Club Coupe that comes finished in a beautiful shade of red. The paint on the car is in great condition with no major imperfections to be found with the exception of a spot of touch up on the trunk and few minor scratches. Both front and rear chrome bumpers have been recently rechromed along with the front grill which looks great. All stainless and bright work around the car has been polished to a high standard. With fender skirts and sun shade, the car is nicely optioned outside as well as inside. The two tone interior is all new inside and looks great. The seats have been refinished in a newer red cloth with white vinyl. The kick panels and door panels have been finished in the matching material and color combination and look great. The same goes for the newer red carpet. The dash has been painted to match the exterior of the car and is in great condition, just showing two small chips. There has been a newer AM/FM/CD player installed in the glovebox that works with no problems. It's attached to a single speaker in the dash where the factory speaker originally went. Under the hood, the 239 Cu In V8 runs great and starts with no issues. The motor is nicely detailed and looks great. Connected to the three speed manual transmission, the car drives great. On the road it performs as a '54 Ford should. The brakes are good, clutch is strong and the car drives in a straight line with little to no effort. In the trunk you will find a full size spare and jack. The wheels are original style steel wheels with Ford hubcaps that are all in great condition. VIN number is U4RG145796 and the mileage currently shows 10,960.
