Description

With the engine and transaxle mounted very low in the back, the 1985 Volkswagen T3 had much larger disc brakes in the front, and drums in the rear. Axle weight is very nearly equal upon both the front and back ends of the vehicle. Unlike the T2 before it, the T3 was available with amenities such as power steering, air conditioning, power door locks, electrically controlled and heated mirrors, lighted vanity mirrors, and a light above the glove box (most of which were essentially standard equipment in later models). Rarely seen, the 091 manual transmission was a four-speed unit, featuring a lightweight aluminum alloy case.US Vanagon model variations included the Vanagon, featuring vinyl seats and a spartan interior; the Vanagon L with optional cloth seats, more upscale interior panels and an optional dashboard blower; the Vanagon GL with more equipment, and the Westfalia pop-top camper Vanagons, with integrated kitchen and bedding. Westfalia campers were offered as either the standard model or as the 'Weekender,' which lacked the propane stove, sink, and domestic refrigerator of the full 'camper' versions. They were offered with an optional removable cabinet with a 12 volt cooler and self-contained sink. The '85 VW Vanagon GL you see here is an incredibly well preserved example showing just over 82,000 miles from new. This is a highly optioned car that includes the pop up roof, full kitchen, AM/FM stereo, center swivel seat with storage compartment and A/C. The sticker on this van was just under $20,000 new when purchased from Quality Motors in Triangle Virginia. The van does have a bumper pull hook up on the front to pull behind your RV. It's like a mother in law quarters for your RV!!The paint on the van appears to be very original and in good overall condition with no major imperfections to speak of. The pop up operates with no problems and goes up and down with ease. Both bumpers are in good condition with no damage showing to either. All of the canvas is in good condition with no rips, tears or staining. Inside, the seats are in very good, original condition with no rips or tears. The carpet is in good condition with only minimal staining but no tears. The dash does show some wear from the sun. There is some minor cracking but no major cracks or buckling as you can see in the photos. The van does have the optional A/C unit but probably is in need of a charge as it blows, but not cold. We have not checked to see if the stove, sink and hook up's work. It appears everything is there and should work but we have not tested it. Under the rear cover, the fuel injected flat four cylinder engine runs great. Connected to the rare 4 speed transmission, the van is a blast to drive and has plenty of power. The engine compartment is in very good, original condition with no signs of damage or modifications. The underside is very solid with no rot that we have found. Mileage currently shows 82,080 and is said to be original for the van. We have a clean AutoCheck in hand that shows mileage was only 49,000 in 1995. VIN number is WV2ZB0251FH062917 and is being sold on a clean Missouri title showing the previous owner has had the van since 1992.
