A new chassis for 1957 allowed the floor to be placed much lower on the Fairlane, which in turn led to a lower and longer look overall. The major component of this chassis was a differential whose pinion gear was exceptionally low relative to the axle shafts, lower than in conventional hypoid differentials. The 1957 Fairlane retained a single-headlight front end like their predecessors, but were unmistakable with their long flanks and tailfins. A plethora of trim lines were introduced with the Fairlane, starting with the base "Custom", "Custom 300", "Fairlane", and top-line "Fairlane 500". The two Custom lines used a 116 in wheelbase, while the Fairlanes had 118 in between the wheels.This particular car is a wonderfully restored example that has been finished in red and white which looks beautiful. The two tone paint is in nearly perfect condition with no imperfections to speak of. The stainless trim surrounding the car shows no major imperfections and retains a great shine. The same goes for the front and rear bumpers and front grill. All of the glass is in good condition with no cracking or chips to the windshield. Inside, the interior has been refinished in the matching red and white as the exterior and is equally as nice. The car has benefitted from new vinyl seats, new carpet, door panels, kick panels and headliner. The steering wheel is solid as is the painted dash. There has been an aftermarket under dash A/C unit installed as well as an aftermarket AM/FM radio and a full set of classic gauges from Auto Meter. Under the hood, the 302 V8 runs great and has been completely rebuilt. With new valve covers, new air cleaner, Edelbrock intake and 4bbl carb, the motor is nicely dressed and looks incredibly clean. There have been headers installed to give it a great rumble going through the true dual exhaust exiting out of the chrome tips in the rear. The underside is very clean and solid with no rot that we have seen. The trunk is nicely carpeted to match the interior and has a two tone vinyl spare tire cover which is a great touch.
