Description

In 1967 the Mustang had seen its first major redesign. The car was bigger and more powerful than ever before. In 1968 newly introduced Federal regulations mandated front and back side markers on the car. This, alone, made it easier to determine a 1967 Mustang from a 1968. Other firsts for the 1968 Mustang included a suspended mirror which was attached to the windshield. In previous years, mirrors were attached to the vehicle frame. The 1968 model also featured the word "Mustang" in script style lettering instead of block letters, and the word "FORD" was removed from the hood of the car. 1968 was the only year the J-code Mustangs were available. J was the engine code indicating the new 302-cubic-inch engine was under the hood. They were the only 302-ci, 4-barrel, 230 HP available that year. J-code Mustangs with the GT option had a 9-inch rear differential. All other J-codes had the 8-inch rear-end. This rare 1968 Mustang J code, 4 speed convertible has benefited from an extremely thorough restoration in the last 5 years. What we were told was anything and everything that could have been replaced or ordered, the prior owner had it done. This vehicle was restored to drive and not just to be a trailer queen, show piece. The beautiful Highland Green paint is in excellent condition with no notable imperfections. The same goes for the white power soft top which functions as it should. All of the chrome has been replated or replaced on the car and looks great, as well as the stainless trim. The GT styled wheels and GT Twin dual exhaust tips gives this vehicle a beautiful Muscle car look along with the Cobra jet hood scoop and stripe. The body is very solid with no bubbling or rot that we have found. Inside the Saddle tan vinyl interior is all new along with door panels, carpet and dash. Everything inside is nearly new and in wonderful condition. No major signs of wear to be found to any of the seats or carpet. All gauges are in good condition along with the lights, blinkers, horn and wipers. The 1968 Mustang had a one year only deal where they put bigger valves and small combustion chambers in the 302 4bbl V8's as this car has. These J code cars are very rare and have very desired engines. This, attached to the 4 speed transmission, makes this car a blast to drive and increasingly desirable. The engine compartment is very clean and nicely detailed. The motor has been upgraded with an Edelbrock 4bbl carb, Edelbrock intake and headers. Accompanying the sale is also an original style spare tire, cover and new mat in the trunk. The VIN is 8F03J185169 and is being sold on a clean Missouri title. Buy with confidence, seldom does a fully restored J code, 4 speed, Mustang Convertible become available to the public.
