Description

The Mercedes-Benz W 113 is a two-seat roadster/coupe, introduced at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show, and produced from 1963 through 1971. The W113 SL replaced both the legendary 300SL and the 190SL. It was designed by Paul Bracq, and the distinctive, slightly concave shape of its optional hardtop, conceived by Bla Barnyi, inspired its contemporary nickname "Pagoda." Of the 48,912 W113 SL's produced, 19,440 were sold in the US.All models feature an inline-six cylinder engine with multi-port fuel injection. All are rear-wheel drive, but are also equipped with independent rear suspension, a feature that greatly improved road handling. While the SL's are relatively heavy compared to other similar roadsters, weight was reduced in part by the use of aluminum panels for the trunk lid, front hood, tonneau cover and door skins. This particular 1970 Mercedes 280 SL has benefited from both a cosmetic and mechanical restoration done about 3 years ago. We have a complete photo documentation of the restoration showing the car and the engine apart and being reassembled. This car has been in the state of Hawaii for the majority of its life and it shows. Very solid car throughout. The correct Horizon blue paint has been done to professional standards with no imperfections to speak of. The front and rear bumpers are equally as nice. The car has a brand new soft top which looks great and works as it should. The hard top goes on and off with no issues. Inside, the interior looks great and was reupholstered during the restoration. The carpets are nearly perfect as are the seats, dash, door panels and hardtop headliner. All gauges are in good working order, as is the AM/FM stereo, lights, blinkers and horn. The under dash A/C works with no problems. The dash appears to be original for the car. Under the hood the 2.8 Liter engine has been totally rebuilt along with the transmission and front end. The prior owner elected to have a rust inhibitor sprayed in the engine bay. We have photos showing the engine compartment with no damage or rot before it was sprayed with the rust inhibitor. The engine starts and runs with no problems and the transmission shifts as it should. This is a great little car that is a blast to drive. Inside the trunk , the vehicle still retains the original spare, jack and tools. Both underbody and trunk floor are very solid with no rust or rot to speak of. The VIN is 11304410012583 and is being sold on a clean Hawaii title where it has spent most of its life. Mileage shows 30,733.
