Description

The Hurst Jeepster was a joint project between Hurst Performance Products' George Hurst and the Jeep engineers. This project actually began while Jeep was owned by Kaiser Industries, but the model didn't appear on the showroom floor until after Jeep had been purchased by American Motors Corp. Originally Jeep planned to produce 500 of these special editions (300 automatics and 200 stick shifts), but in the end it is believed that only around 100 were ever driven off of the assembly line making it a very special vehicle. The reasoning behind the lower production total was likely because AMC had plans to redesign the Commando model for the following production year. The Hurst Jeepster, built with modifications by Hurst Performance, is possibly the scarcest model of all production Jeeps. Standard equipment included a Champagne White exterior with red and blue stripes, a roof rack, a sports steering wheel, and Goodyear G70 x 15 raised white letter tires mounted on wider steel wheels. Hurst equipment included special exterior insignia, an 8,000-rpm tachometer on the back of the hood scoop in the driver's line of sight, as well as a Hurst T-handle shifter on manual-transmission cars or a console-mounted Hurst Dual-Gate shifter with the optional automatic transmission. This particular 1970 Hurst Jeepster Commando is a true Hurst Jeepster. We have spoken to numerous people regarding the Jeepster who knew of it before we purchased it. They confirm that it is in the registry. We also have documentation to show that this was a true, dealer optioned Hurst Jeepster and is in the registry. The paint is in good condition along with the Hurst graphics which are newer with no major imperfections to speak of. The body is very solid with no bubbling or rot that we have seen. The front and rear bumpers appear to be newer chrome and in excellent condition. The hood retains its hood mounted tach and hood scoop. Inside, the interior appears to be all original except for the recovered Vinyl black seats which are in great condition. The gray rubber matt is in good condition except for the driver's side where there is some wear from being used. The same goes for the dash and center console. Overall the interior looks great and very original. Under the hood this vehicle retains the 225 CI V6 engine attached to an Automatic transmission. The four wheel drive works with no issues. We actually purchased this Jeepster from a gentleman in Colorado was still using it for its purpose of four wheeling. He has owned it since 1998. The underside is clean and solid with no rot that we have seen. The VIN is 8705F1769706 and is being sold on a clean Colorado title. Buy with confidence; seldom does a rare Hurst Jeepster like this become available to the public.
