Description

The Rambler received its first restyling in 1953, and resembled the "senior" Nash models that had received all-new "Airflyte" styling the year before. The hood line was lowered and a new hood ornament, designed by George Petty was optional. The standard engines were increased with manual transmission cars receiving a 184 cu in I6 producing 85 hp, while a 90 hp 195.6 cu in I6 powered cars with the optional "Hydra-Matic" automatic purchased from GM. For 1954, the only major changes were to the Nash line up where a four door sedan and station wagon were added. The option list also saw the addition of Nash's integrated air conditioning. This was also the last year for the enclosed front wheel. The car you see here is nothing like it was when it came out of the factory. While it does look extremely radical in styling, the car is incredibly streetable. This little '54 Nash is powered by a high horsepower 327 Cu In V8 going back to 3.25 gears in the rear through an automatic transmission. All of this sits under the stock, Nash body which is all steel with the exception of the scoop on the hood. Outside, the paint is nearly perfect with the exception of one small chip on the drivers side door. Both front and rear chrome bumpers have been rechromed and look great with no imperfections showing to either. The same goes for the front grill, hood ornament and bright work. The car does have an original style continental kit which is a great touch. The sides of this car are laser straight as you can see in the photos as it was an extremely solid car when the started the full, nut and bolt restoration. Inside, the interior is all custom and looks great. The leather buckets are both new and are equipped with 4 point harnesses for the passenger and driver. The carpet is all new as well as the custom door panels. The dash has been painted the same color as the exterior and looks great. A full set of Auto Meter gauges have been installed that include water temperature, oil pressure and a 10,000 RPM tach. All of which work with no problems. There has also been an 8 point roll cage installed inside the car. Behind the seats there has been an AM/FM stereo intergraded into the tubbed rear end and covered with carpet. This is a great touch and looks great. Under the hood the 327 Cu In V8 produces nearly 400 horsepower. Fed through a Holley 4bbl carb and Edelbrock intake the car runs great. The heads are double hump heads with angle plugs. Stainless steel headers go back to a stainless steel exhaust system. In the front there is a rack and pinion steering system which makes the car even easier to drive. The rear end is a Ford 9" with 3.25 gears. The chassis is a tube chassis with ladder bars in the rear with coil over shocks. Other options include disc brakes all around, Mickey Thompson radials in the rear and polished Weld Racing wheels. This incredible little car is a blast to drive and is very streetable. The VIN number is 171882 and current mileage shows 25,182.
