Description

1949 was a rebuilding year for Plymouth. It was two years behind the rest of the industry, considering that most post-war manufacturers had completely revamped their car lines as soon as possible after the final guns of World War II had fired. If you purchased an early 1949 Plymouth-one produced before March of 1949-you were actually purchasing a 1948 model. It wasn't until later in the year that 1949 Plymouths were completely revamped as entirely new cars. Special Deluxe's featured bright work that made them stand out from their lesser counterparts. Chrome add-ons included the windshield trim, rear-window moldings, Special Deluxe fender script, a mahogany dashboard and richer interior trimmings and upholstery. The car you see here is a '49 Plymouth Special Deluxe that has been with the same owner since 1980! This is also said that this is a 74,000 ORIGINAL mile car from the state of Utah where it has been its entire life. Finished in a silver/blue the car is very straight and solid with no bubbling or rot that we have seen to the body. The front and rear bumpers are both in great condition with on pitting or damage showing to either. The grill and bright work are equally as nice with no major imperfections showing. Inside, the interior has been reupholstered in a gray cloth that looks great. This includes seats, door panels, carpet and a new headliner. The mahogany wood dash looks great with only a few small spots of fading at the top. The steering wheel is very solid overall with only a few minor cracks showing as you can see in the photos. The stainless tri and accents inside look great and show only minor pitting. Overall have a great shine and luster. Under the hood, the inline 6 cylinder looks great and runs even better. As expected from a low mileage original, the car runs down the road incredibly smooth with no issues. The three speed manual transmission shifts properly and the clutch feels strong. The engine bay has been tastefully detailed and shows no damage or rot. The underside is solid and is incredibly clean. The car retains bias ply tires that are newer and in very good condition. They are wrapped around steel wheels with Plymouth dog dish hub caps. In the trunk you will find a full size spare and jack. Mileage shows 74,250 and the VIN number is 12197916. The car is being sold on a clean Utah title showing that the previous owner has had the car since November 22, 1980.
