Description

Even though it was the last year of the generation, 1966 saw a stylistic revision for the Thunderbird highlighted by a new egg-crate style grille with a large Thunderbird emblem at its center and a new rear fascia with the brake lights restyled to appear as one unit. Engine choices were also revised for 1966. The base version of the 390 cu in V8 lost 25 horsepower due to the use of a two-barrel carburetor in place of the previously equipped four-barrel carburetor. The optional version of the 390 cu in V8, now equipped with a single four-barrel carburetor instead of two, produced 315 horsepower. 1966 was the first time the model name "Town Landau" was used. It was also used in the years 1977-1982 for Thunderbirds with distinguishing trim and luxury features. That's a perfect way to describe this '66 Thunderbird. This car has benefited from a very tasteful restoration that included new paint, interior and making everything under the hood look better then new. This 1966 Thunderbird "Town Landau" has been meticulously maintained traveling only 63,542 original miles. The vehicle has had a mild custom paint job in the beautiful color of plum passion with dark blue metallic scallops. This vehicle was repainted in 2003 at a cost of nearly $9,500. At that time the landau top was replaced. The paint is in excellent condition with no major imperfections. The same goes for the chrome and all metal accents. The beautifully kept interior is all original and is in great condition. Still finished in black with parchment the seats are in very good condition as well as the carpet. The door panels are original and show only minor wear. The kick panels and headliner are equally as nice with no major wear. All lights, blinkers, horn and wipers work with no problems. The sequential lights in the rear perform as they should. Under the hood this vehicle retains the famous 390 cu in V8 attached to a C-6, 3-speed transmission that shifts seamlessly. The vehicle runs and drives beautifully with all mechanical aspects working at this time; even the original AM radio is operational. In the trunk the vehicle has the spare tire, jack and lug wrench with no rot to speak of. The same goes for the undercarriage, which is very solid. The VIN is 6Y87Z137594 and is being sold on a clean Missouri title showing that the previous owner has had the car since 2009. Currently the mileage shows 63,573 and is said to be original for the car.
