Description

The 1980 Chevrolet Corvette was the first since 1974 to have more than one engine displacement. Unfortunately the new option was a 305 cubic inch destined for the California market to meet the stringent smog laws. This engine was required for California and was only available with the automatic transmission. The good news is that the '80 was 250 pounds lighter than the 1979. The hood and doors were made thinner saving weight. The tops decreased in density due to the use of microscopic beads in their construction. The rear differential housing and supports were manufactured from aluminum which also decreased weight. On the 350 cubic inch cars the intake manifold was made from aluminum. The front and rear spoilers from the '78 pace car were now molded into the front and rear bumper pieces and were standard. All '80 Corvettes now had the 85 MPH speedometer. The Turbo-HydraMatic automatic transmissions received a lock-up torque converter which engaged at about 30 MPH. The manual transmissions got new gearing although it was only available with the base L48 engine. Power windows, tilt-telescopic steering and air conditioning were all included in the base price. This particular Black on black Corvette is said to be all original and only shows 17,055 meticulously maintained miles. The paint is in near perfect condition with no major imperfections to speak of. There has been red pin striping applied many years ago around the door handles and on the hood. The pin striping has been wet sanded off on the nose but you can still see where it was. The t-tops are in good condition and seal as they should. The special Black leather interior looks great and shows no wear. The seats are both in great condition and original for the car. The side bolsters, which are always the first thing to wear out, are all in great condition with no rips or tears. The same goes for the carpet, door panels and dash which are all original for the car. The AM/FM radio has been upgraded to a newer model which works with no problems. Under the hood the vehicle is equipped with the original 350 CI engine attached to a Turbo-Hydromatic transmission that shifts seamlessly. The vehicle is fully optioned with power brakes, power steering, A/C that blows cold, Power windows; power door locks Cruise control, and a rear window de-icer. The vehicle runs and drives like new with all mechanical aspects working at this time.We have a folder of receipts for the car that show the heater core was recently changed out as well as the radiator being was flushed all in 2010. In July of 2008 which the car showed 16,000 miles, the front and rear brake calipers were replaced as well as the pads, brake lines and power steering hoses. Bid with confidence, seldom does a survivor Corvette in this condition become available to the public. The VIN is 1Z878A5425173 and is being sold on a clean Missouri title. The current mileage shows 17,063 which is actual for the car.
