Description

For 1952 Buicks, changes were so minor that it takes a trained eye to tell a 1952 from a 1951. The Special standard models, which were phased out early in the model run, got a sweep spear, but kept a two-piece windshield. Ads for the 1952 Buick proclaimed that " ... a million dollars' worth of engineering, research and special components have gone into perfecting its ... Million Dollar Ride," while still providing "road-hugging security" in all conditions. "There's a special transverse radius rod extending from the frame on one side to the rear axle on the other side -- to control side ways and 'side shift' on curves. And Buick shock absorbers have two sets of cylinders and pistons to control upsurge and down-thrust." Further, Buick made a point that its "honest heft" was offset by the Roadmaster's increased horsepower and that the new "Airpower carburetor needs less fuel at 40 [mph] than was formerly used at 30." Still, production faltered to 303,745 units for the model year, again due primarily to Korean War production restrictions mandated by the government. But because other automakers were also forced to cut back by about the same proportion, Buick retained a solid fourth-place standing, a position it would keep for two more years, before finally taking over third. This particular 1952 Buick Custom two door hardtop has had thousands of dollars invested in it in the mid to late 80's to make it what you see today. The owner said that the car started as a 80,000 actual mile, solid west coast car. It shows as the body is extremely solid as well as the underside. This custom has everything you could possibly want from a big block under the custom louvered hood to power steering, power brakes, A/C, shaved door handles, frenched taillights, frenched antennas and a complete custom interior that looks nearly as good today as it did when the car was assembled. Outside, you will notice the car has been nosed and decked to remove all emblems as well as the door handles being shaved. The body was smoothed of all emblems, trim and port holes during the restoration. The customization didn't stop there though. In the rear the tail lights were custom designed and frenched into the rear fenders along with the dual power antennas. The hood is steel and has been professionally louvered which looks great. Both front and rear chrome bumpers are nearly perfect with no major imperfections. The same goes for the grill. Spot lights have been added to both sides with door poppers integrated into them. All of this is finished off with custom pin stripping and a mural on the rear that subsequently names the car "Old Gold". Inside, the custom tan interior looks great. The custom center console includes switches for the custom accent lighting under the center console and in the trunk. The dash has been painted the same color as the rest of the car in a beautiful shade of gold. All of the seats are in great condition with no major wear to be found. The gauges are in good working order as well as the A/C which does blow cold. Under the hood, the big block 454 Cu In V8 is nicely finished with chrome valve covers, chrome alternator and chrome A/C compressor. The car does have power steering and power brakes. The big block is fed through an Edelbrock 4 bbl carb and Edelbrock intake and exits through a set of headers and stainless exhaust that gives the car a great sound. Connected to the turbo 400 transmission, the car drives great and is a great cruiser. The front clip is from GM and comes with power disc brakes to help stop this custom. The VIN number is 16595549 and is being sold on a clean Indiana.
