Description

The Cougar changed in many ways in 1969. A convertible option was now offered, the 427 engine option was removed, and the wheelbase became wider and longer resulting in a heavier vehicle. Sales were still strong but they just barely cleared 100,000 units. The base engine was a 351 cubic-inch 8-cylinder producing 290 horsepower with the top of the line engine a 428 cubic-inch 8-cylinder producing just under 340 horsepower. Mercury offered products such as Weber carbs and deep-sump oil pans that amplified the performance to meet customer performance requirements. Larger brakes, sportier suspension, engine modifications, and performance products did make the car a stronger force on the drag strip but it was often shown-up by the smaller and lighter muscle cars of the day. This particular beautiful Black Cougar XR 7 was purchased from a private owner who meticulously maintained the vehicle while using it as weekend driver for the last 4 years. The paint is in very good overall condition with no major wear. There are only a few minor scratches and dings showing to the car. The bumpers look very good overall and appear to be original for the car. There is some minor pitting and scratches showing but no major damage. The wheels and tires appear to be newer with minimal pitting on the rims.Inside the vehicle still retains the original combination of black leather and vinyl interior, which is in great original condition. The same goes for the door panels, dash, and headliner. The carpets appear to have been replaced and are in great condition. All gauges, lights, blinkers and horn work with no problems. Under the hood boasts the powerful 351 CI engine attached to C4 automatic transmission that shifts seamlessly. The vehicle has been upgrades with an Edelbrock carburetor and Mallory ignition system making the vehicle very responsive and reliable. It is also equipped with power steering, power brakes and the sought after A/C system. The underside is clean and solid with no rust that we have seen. Inside the trunk the vehicle retains what looks like to be the original spare and tools with a new trunk matt. The VIN is 9R93H505282 and is being sold on a clean Arkansas title. The mileage shows 63,635 miles which is said to be original for the car but we have no documentation to prove the miles.
