Description

In its final two model years, the Wasp became a product of the newly formed American Motors Corporation (AMC). Following the 1954 model, Hudson's Detroit manufacturing facility was closed and production of Hudson models was shifted to Nash's factory in Kenosha, Wisconsin. All Hudsons would be based on the senior Nash models, but would have exclusive Hudson styling. After Hudson's 1954 merger with Nash, 1955 Hudsons were built on the unitized Nash platforms. The 1955 Hornet was built on the 1955 Nash Ambassador unitized platform and was offered with the big Hornet 308 cubic inch 6 as well as a detuned 320 cubic inch Packard V8. The 1955 Hudson Wasp was built on the Nash Statesman platform. For 1955, the Wasp was offered with Hudson's 202 cubic inch 6 previously used in the Hudson Jet compact sedan and Hudson Italia. The 202 was offered with twin H Power and put out 120 HP.The 1955 Hudsons used Nash's long travel coil spring suspension, integrated and advanced Heating and ventilation system and were offered with air conditioning and reclining seats. Although comfortable, the Nash based Hudsons were no longer competitive on the race tracks where they dominated from 1952-1954.Hudson Wasp sales dropped to 7,191 units for the year as traditional Hudson buyers left the marquee, viewing the cars as something less than the legendary Hudsons of the past. This '55 Hudson Wasp Two Door is said to be a 57,000 original mile car that has never undergone any kind of major restoration. Painted in the original color combination of Rio Red with Snowberry White, the car looks great. With the continental kit mounted on the rear, the car is simply stunning. The front and rear chrome bumpers both look great and show no pitting or damage. The same goes for the trim going around the car. Inside, the interior is nearly spotless with no major wear to be found. The famous airliner reclining seats are nearly perfect with no wear to be found. The same goes for the carpet, door panels and the headliner. No cracking to the steering wheel and the chrome inside is nearly spotless. The car does have A/C from the factory which is very rare but has had a new compressor installed. Under the hood, the dual carb "Twin H-Power" 6 cylinder runs great and is connected to the rarely seen automatic transmission. The car starts with a turn of the key and goes down the road with no problems. The engine compartment is very clean with no signs of damage. The car currently shows 57,253 miles which is said to be original for the car but we have no documentation to prove this. VIN number is W3243 and the car is being sold on a clean Florida title.
