Description

The Willys CJ-5 (after 1964 Jeep CJ-5) was influenced by new corporate owner, Kaiser, and the Korean War M38A1 Jeep. It was intended to replace the CJ-3B, but that model continued in production. The CJ-5 repeated this pattern, continuing in production for three decades while three newer models appeared. "The CJ-5 has the distinct honor of being a vehicle that was hard to kill off... equaling the longest production run of note." A total of 603,303 CJ-5s were produced between 1954 and 1983.American Motors began using their own engines in 1972. Replacing the Hurricane was the one-barrel 232 cu in. Optional was a one-barrel 258 cu in. Also in 1972, AMC's 304 cu in V8 engine became available in the same tune as a base V8 muscle car. To accommodate the new engines the fenders and hood were stretched 5 inches starting in 1972 and the wheelbase was stretched 3 inches. Other drive train changes took place then as well, including the front axle becoming a full-floating Dana 30.The 1974 CJ-5 you see here is a wonderfully restored example that is ready for any trail or simply to drive. The Jeep has been through a restoration around 10 years ago and has driven less then 800 miles since. This is a fiberglass body top with the original steel fender front clip. The paint is in great condition with no major imperfections to be found. There is a black soft top by Bestop which is included as well as soft doors. All of which are in great condition with no rips or tears. Inside, the carpet and seats are all new and in great condition. The dash has been painted to match the exterior and looks great. The gauge cluster in the center works with no problems. There has been an aftermarket gauges installed in the dash that includes oil pressure and temperature. There has also been a heater installed inside. Under the hood, you will find a rebuilt 304 Cu In V8 that runs great. Connected to the 4 speed manual transmission, this Jeep is a blast to drive and very capable off road. The V8 is fed through an Edelbrock 4 bbl carb and intake. Other options under the hood include D.U.I distributor, Live Wire plug wires, Hedmann headers and a Painless wiring harness. The engine compartment is very clean and has been nicely detailed. It shows that this Jeep has never been through the mud! As you can see in the photos, the underside is very solid and has had new body bushings installed during the restoration. The tires are all new and are from BF Goodrich. They show no major wear or dry rot. In the front there are warn locking hubs. The transmission and differentials have also been rebuilt. VIN number is J4F835TH73789 and is being sold on a clean Missouri title showing that it was purchased by the current owner in2002. Be sure to check out our other Jeep CJ5 finished in blue with a inline 6 cylinder!
