Description

The '59 Caddy had it all -- looks, performance, and comfort. It stood as the ultimate symbol of success, impressive and -- yes -- controversial. The outrageous tail fins and jet pod taillights evoked either a love it or leave it attitude with the public. It is interesting to note that Maurice D. Hendry, author of Cadillac: Standard of the World, The Complete Seventy-Year History, refused to include a picture of the regular production '59 Cadillac in his book. He said that, "This year saw the tail fins reach a literally ridiculous height.... The fins had plenty of critics including this writer.... Nevertheless, the 1959s overall were excellent.... As cars -- rocket fins or not -- they were undeniably excellent."There were two series 62 sedans produced in 1959. The rarer of the two, and most commonly referred to as the better looking, was the 4 door, 4 window "flat top" sedan. With only 14,138 produced the series 62 flat top was the third lowest production car made by Cadillac behind the convertible and Sedan DeVille 4 window. This particular '59 Cadillac flat top has just had a brand new paint job within the last 5 months along with new interior and the original 390 Cu In V8 going through a complete rebuild. This car is truly a turn key car that you can pile all of your friends in and cruise! The paint on the car is as good as you would expect from a new paint job but we wouldn't call it show quality. No notable imperfections to be found. The front and rear bumpers are both in good overall condition with only some minor pitting showing. The same goes for the stainless trim around the car. The car does have fender skirts which both look great and are a nice touch.Inside, the green and black interior looks very good with no major spots of wear showing. The carpet is new as well as the newly upholstered seats, door panels and dash. All lights, blinkers, horn and wipers work with no problems. Under the hood, the original 390 Cu In V8 runs great and has gone through a complete rebuild in July of 2011. The engine was professionally rebuilt using only quality parts and machine shop service. The engine was rebuilt to upgrade the valve, seals and to fix all leaks. The block was cleaned, magnafluxed and honed so it retained its original bore. New fitted cast rings were installed. The crank shaft was turned .10/.10, new main bearings were installed as well as rod bearings, new timing chain and gear, cam bearings, rebuilt oil pump and all new gaskets and seals throughout. The original 4bbl carb was rebuilt, water pump rebuilt, radiator was re-cored, distributor rebuilt, new brake master cylinder and booster installed, new belts and hoses, new battery, new exhaust system and more. When the heads were disassembled they were magnafluxed, new valves were installed, new guides were installed, seats were ground, new springs and keepers were also installed. The transmission was already rebuilt when the rebuild of the motor was done so nothing was done to it as it performed with no issues. The rear end was checked along with the bearings, seals, driveshaft and u-joints. We have a board that shows detailed engine pictures of the V8 when it was disassembled and being rebuilt. The underside of the car is very clean and has been undercoated sometime in the past. There has been a new aluminized exhaust system installed. In the trunk, you will find that it has been nicely carpeted and is very solid. The mileage currently shows 97,063 which is said to be original for the car. VIN number is 59A142068 and the car is being sold on a clean Missouri title.
