Description

The Coupe de Ville was introduced by Cadillac late in the 1949 model year. Part of the Cadillac Series 62 line, it was a closed, two-door coup, Cadillac's first pillarless hardtop. Intended as a prestige model, at $3,497 it was one of the most expensive models of the Series 62 line. It was luxuriously trimmed, with leather upholstery and chrome 'bows' in the headliner to simulate the ribs of a convertible top. The first-year Coupe de Ville sold 2,150 units, but 1950 sales were more than double, and 1951 more than doubled those of the previous year. By 1961 it was one of the company's most popular models, with annual sales above 20,000.Cadillac de Ville nomenclature always followed a tradition: Two doors with steel roofs were always Coupe de Ville, four doors were always Sedan de Ville until the elimination of two door models, and convertibles were Series 62s, as they were neither a coupe, nor a sedan by design. The car we are offering here is one of the 2,150 ever produced and finished in the original color combination of Triumph Blue Metallic with Corinth Blue roof. The car is an original southern California car that has benefitted from a wonderful restoration before it went to a collection in Oklahoma. This is a highly optioned example with power seat, power windows and automatic transmission. The true wire wheels are a great touch with its wide white wall radials. The paint on the car is in great condition and is near show quality. The same goes for the chrome and stainless which shows no imperfections. Both doors shut as they did in '49 with good lines all around. The body is very solid and straight with no bubbling to be found. All of the glass is in good condition with no cracking or chips. All four windows are power and go up and down with no issues. Inside, the seats have been reupholstered in a two tone blue and white that looks great. There are no imperfections to the front or rear seat. The seat is power and works with no problems. The carpet, door panels and headliner are all equally as nice. A great touch to these Coupe DeVille's are the headliner bows inside to give it a convertible look. All gauges are in good working order as well as the lights, blinkers and vacuum wipers. The AM radio is original for the car but is currently inoperable. Under the hood, the original, numbers matching overhead valve V8 runs great and incredibly smooth. With the car idling, you can't hear a thing. The automatic transmission operates as it should and shifts very smooth. In the trunk, you will find a full size bias ply spare and carpeted trunk lining. The trunk is very solid. The chrome wire wheels are all wrapped with new wide white radials that have good tread life left on them. The mileage currently shows 7,479 which is believed to be 107,749 actual miles. VIN number is 496272399. The car is being sold on a clean Oklahoma title.
