Description

Even though it was the last year of the generation, 1966 saw a stylistic revision for the Thunderbird highlighted by a new egg-crate style grille with a large Thunderbird emblem at its center and a new rear fascia with the brake lights restyled to appear as one unit. Engine choices were also revised for 1966. The base version of the 390 cu in V8 lost 25 horsepower due to the use of a two-barrel carburetor in place of the previously equipped four-barrel carburetor. The optional version of the 390 cu in V8, now equipped with a single four-barrel carburetor instead of two, produced 315 horsepower. 1966 was the first time the model name "Town Landau" was used. It was also used in the years 1977-1982 for Thunderbirds with distinguishing trim and luxury features. That's a perfect way to describe this '66 Thunderbird. Loaded with options, the car has benefited from a very extensive restoration that included new paint, interior and making everything under the hood look better then new. Options include dual power seats, cruise control, A/C, power locks, power windows and power antenna. This is said to be an 82,000 original mile car and we have receipts that show mileage dating back to 1981. Among the receipts we have, the most notable shows that the motor went through a complete rebuild when the car showed only 67,339 miles. During that time, it appears the majority of the car was gone through. Shocks, brakes, transmission, paint, vinyl top, all power options, A/C, stereo were all serviced at a cost of $10,000! We also have in hand a maintenance break down from the late 70's through the early 80's we believe that shows tune up's, oil changes, install of power options, Ziebarting and regular maintenance. The show quality paint on the car is in great condition and finished in Silver Mink Metallic. The vinyl landau top is equally as nice as the paint. There is no bubbling that we have found to the body and all doors shut tight with good gaps all around. The front and rear bumpers both look new and show no pitting or damage. The same goes for the grill and taillights. Inside, the black interior looks great and appears to be newly upholstered. The dash, door panels, headliner and carpet are all in near perfect condition with no notable imperfections. The wood trim throughout the center console and on the dash looks great with no peeling or cracks. Everything inside this car works that we have found including both power seats, power locks, power windows, power antenna and AM/FM stereo. The A/C does blow cool in the car but its not ice cold. It may just be in need of a recharge. Under the hood, the 390 Cu In V8 with 4bbl carb looks great and is cleaner today then the day it rolled off the assembly line. With power steering, power brakes and A/C, the car is loaded under the hood. No damage to be found anywhere. The trunk is solid and is loaded with books, manuals and magazines. Also included are a box of NOS oil filters, spark plugs and brake shoes that the previous owner purchased in bulk and left in the car. The underside is very solid like the rest of the car. The BF Goodrich radial tires are wrapped around original Ford wheels and rare Thunderbird hubcaps. The mileage currently shows 82,003 and is said to be original for the car. The VIN number is 6Y87Z128300 and the car is being sold on a clean Indiana title.
