Description

The Rambler received its first restyling in 1953, and resembled the "senior" Nash models that had received all-new "Airflyte" styling the year before. The hood line was lowered and a new hood ornament, designed by George Petty was optional. The standard engines were increased with manual transmission cars receiving a 184 cu in I6 producing 85 hp, while a 90 hp 195.6 cu in I6 powered cars with the optional "Hydra-Matic" automatic purchased from GM. For 1954, the only major changes were to the Nash line up where a four door sedan and station wagon were added. The option list also saw the addition of Nash's integrated air conditioning. This was also the last year for the enclosed front wheel. This rarely seen '54 Nash Rambler Custom is finished in the original color combination of Anniversary Gold Metallic with a Malibu Ivory top and tan interior. This is believed to be a 93,000 original mile car that has gone through a mild, cosmetic restoration. The paint on the car is in good overall condition with no major imperfections. There is a very small bit of minor bubbling in the paint above the passenger side door handle. The rest of the car looks very good with only some minor chips and nicks from driving. The front and rear bumpers are both in very good condition and both retain a brilliant shine and luster. The car does have the special hood ornament available in '54 as well as a continental kit. Both of which are very nice touches. We do have a spare windshield that comes with the car. The original windshield has no cracks, just a few minor chips. Inside, the interior appears to be almost all new. The seats, carpet, door panels and headliner all appear to be newer and in great condition. The dash is original for the car as is the gauge cluster which works with no problems. The original AM radio is inoperable. Horn, lights, blinkers and vacuum wipers all work with no problems. Under the hood, the inline 6 cylinder runs great as a 93,000 mile car should. Connected to the three speed manual transmission, the car is a blast to drive on the road. The clutch feels strong as well as the brakes with no fading to either side. The underside is solid with the exceptions of two small holes. One is at the bottom of the spare tire area in the trunk which is about a 1 inch diameter. The other is to the drivers side floor which is about the same size. There is no undercoating under the car, just bare metal so you don't have to worry about any rust hiding. In the trunk there is a full size bias ply spare along with a jack and original style matting. All bias ply tires are in good condition along with the wheels and hubcaps. The mileage currently shows 93,950 which is said to be original for the car but we have no documentation to prove this. The car does drive like the mileage is correct though and shows just as nice. VIN number is D178271 and the car is being sold on a clean Iowa title. The car has been with the same owner for the past 11 years.
