Description

The Corvette Nomad was a 1954 proto-type that debuted at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City for General Motors Motorama. It has been called the WALDORF ever since. It was such a huge success that some of the unique features were applied to a Chevrolet Belair two-door station wagon and it was put into production as a Nomad in 1955. All of the 8,530 bodies were made at the Cleveland plant and shipped to the Flint, Baltimore, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Jamestown, Tarrytown, Atlanta, Kansas City, Oakland, Willow Run, and Norwood plants to be assembled. This particular car was assembled down the street at the St. Louis assemble plant. This particular '55 Nomad has gone through a nice restoration to make it into the beautiful street machine you see today. Finished in red with tan interior, the car is extremely clean and looks great with its 2 inch dropped front end, Billet Specialties wheels and clean body. The paint on the car is in great condition with no major imperfections. The body has been smoothed and had almost all of the side trim pieces deleted to give this car a smooth, clean look. The front and rear chrome bumpers both look great with no damage showing to either. All of the glass is in good condition with the exception of the passenger side rear quarter window which does have a crack in the corner that is hidden by a sticker. The car does not have wipers but the wiper motor is still there. Inside, the seats have been finished in a tan vinyl that looks great and shows like it is new. The carpet, headliner and door panels are all equally as nice and look great. The dash has been painted the same color as the exterior and shows no imperfections. The gauges are from Auto Meter and all work with no problems with the exception of the speedometer. The steering wheel is from Billet Specialties and is connected to a chrome column. There is no glove box or wiper switch and the AM/FM radio is inoperable. Under the hood you will find a 350 Cu In V8 that is connected to an automatic transmission. The motor runs great and fires up with a turn of the key. On the road, the car drives very straight with no pulling to either side. The front disc brakes perform as they should but are not power. This is a power steering car. The underside is solid and has had undercoating applied to prevent any rust in the future. The wheels are 17" in the front and 18" in the rear. The car has been lowered using 2" drop spindles in the front. The ride is very good with no bouncing or harshness. It's nearly as smooth as a stock ride height car. With only a hand full of Nomads being built and even fewer still in existence, these cars are only increasing in value. The VIN number is VC55V183601 and the car is being sold on a clean Oklahoma title. The gentleman we purchased the car from told us he had nearly $50,000 invested! Now is your chance to take advantage of his loss and make it your gain!
