Description

The Pontiac Star Chief was first produced in 1954 as one of Pontiac's new prestige models, lifting the company from its previous dowdy image. New A-body styling and an 11-in. longer frame were among the marks for the new Star Chief series, which could be identified by the chrome star trims along its sides. Between 1954 and 1957, the Star Chief was Pontiac's prestige model; the car was easily identified by its chrome star trim along its sides. When the storyline of I Love Lucy pointed towards a Hollywood setting in the 1954-1955 season, the characters "drove" to the West Coast in a 1955 Star Chief convertible. This particular '54 Star Chief Catalina is finished in its original colors of Coral Red and Winter White with matching Coral and Ivory interior. With its 8 cylinder engine and automatic, fluid filled transmission, the car is a joy to drive. The car is loaded with dealer add on options that include fender skirts, drivers side mirror that is adjustable from the inside, traffic light viewer, sun visor, curb feelers, and under dash tissue dispenser. This car went through a mild restoration in the early to mid 90's that included paint, suspension, brakes and an engine rebuild. The paint is in very good overall condition with no major imperfections. The body seems very straight and solid under the paint with no bubbling that we have seen. The car was repainted in the mid to late 90's and still retains a great luster. The front and rear bumpers are both in very good condition with no significant imperfections. The same goes for the stainless trim and accent pieces around the car. Inside, the seats appear to be original for the car. The front seat does show some cracking and wear as you can see in the photos but overall in very good condition. The rear seat looks great with no major wear. There has been seat belts installed in the front and rear. The carpet, headliner and door panels are all in very good condition with no major wear. All gauges are in good working order as well as the lights, turn signals and wipers. Under the hood, the inline 8 cylinder runs great and is nicely detailed. Connected to the Hydra-matic transmission that shifts as it should, the car goes down the road with no problems. We recently took the car on a 40 mile trip at highway speeds with no problems. The motor was rebuilt in 1992 at a cost of nearly $2,000. The trunk is solid and includes a full size spare and jack. It appears the trunk matting is original for the car. All body matching wheels are wrapped with newer Firestone wide white bias ply tires that have good tread life and no rotting. All four Pontiac wheel covers are in very good condition. VIN number is P8ZA58980 and the mileage currently shows 33,681. The car is being sold on a clean Illinois title showing the previous owner has had the car since February of 1998.
