Description

Introduced in April 1968 as an early 1969 model, the Continental Mark III is the direct spiritual successor of the limited production, ultra-luxurious Continental Mark II produced by a short-lived Continental division of Ford Motor Company between in 1956 and 1957. Confusingly, a direct linear descendent of the Mark II, the Continental Mark III, first wore the name in 1958. Large and somewhat extravagant even for its time, it did not sell as well as Cadillac, but nonetheless earned high reviews from motoring periodicals of the day. The 1958 Mark III was the first car to be built at the new Wixom, Michigan assembly plant. Despite some bad reviews by the automotive press, the public took to the car, with some 7,000 built during the remainder of the 1968 model year, and another 23,858 cars for the 1969 model year, a respectable showing; Lincoln had always trailed Cadillac in production numbers, but the Mark III almost equaled the Eldorado, which tallied 23,333 for 1969. This was the start of a long, successful run for the Lincoln Continental Mark Series. This particular 1969 Lincoln Mark III was special ordered and has been refinished in its original Medium Gold Metallic and original Saddle Leather interior. It has traveled only 39,750 original miles since new making this vehicle very desirable to investors and enthusiasts. We are selling the car for a local client of ours who purchased the car in November of 2007. Since then, he has put nearly $10,000 in the car making it perfect in every way. We have receipts for every job done to the car from rebuilding the transmission to replacing window switches. This was a very highly optioned car that options include power seats, reclining passenger seat, tilt steering wheel, remote trunk release, speed control, A/C with auto temp., rear window defogger, AM radio, automatic headlight dimmer, tinted glass, special body finish and power door locks. The restoration included the vehicle being brought down to bare metal and refinished in the original color of Medium Gold Metallic. All new NOS trim was replaced as well as bumpers being re-chromed to concourse standards. The outside shows extremely well with no major imperfections to speak of. The car was lovingly cared for and has always been garage kept. The interior is equally as nice with no imperfections to speak of. The seats are all in great condition with no major wear or cracking. The same goes for the carpet, door panels, dash and steering wheel. All windows work as well as the optional cruise control, headlight dimmer, AM/FM radio and A/C which blows cold. There is a bit of noise coming from the compressor. The documents that accompany this investment grade Lincoln are original build sheet, original owners manual, original sales brochure, Deluxe Marti Report and over $10,000 in mechanical receipts. This vehicle has also won awards and trophies at the National Lincoln Continental Owners Club meet in Salado, Texas that include judging sheets. The 460 V8 under the hood runs great and starts with a turn of the key. It is connected to the C6 transmission that performs as it should. The transmission was just rebuilt last year at a total of nearly $2,500. During this time, the power steering was overhauled, carb was rebuilt and alternator was replaced. This car needs nothing and is as good as it was when it rolled off the assembly line on January 16, 1969 (six days behind schedule). I have watched the classic car market very closely over the past 5 years and now is the time to buy. Bid with confidence, you will not be disappointed in this rare find. The VIN number is 9Y89A881436 and the current mileage shows 39,750. The car is being sold on a clean Missouri title.
