Description

During the production of the Packard 200, the company also produced the Packard 250, which shared the same basic body and wheelbase as the 200, but was equipped with Packard's larger 327 cubic inches 8-cylinder in-line engine. The 250 model range was introduced in March 1951, and was specially designed to fill the vacuum of Packard having neither a hardtop or convertible in its 1951 model range. Besides their unique body styles, 250's received better grade trim and fabric were used within. All Packard 200 models came with twin horns, two sun visors, front and rear bumper guards, spare tire and jack set. Deluxe trim level included the spartan appointments found on the standard models, and added chrome wheel rings, and turn indications as standard. White-wall tires and full-wheel covers were also extra. Items which have since become standard to the auto industry since the late 1960s such as heater, radio, tinted glass, carpeting, etc., were all optional on the Packard, as well as other premium cars during that era. Packard also became the first car-maker to offer power-brakes in 1951. "Easamatic" as they were trademarked, were a product of Bendix and an exclusive to Packard. The car you see here today has been owned for the last 10 years by a gentleman who has been restoring these cars for 40 years. Finished in the attractive color combination of black with a brand new burnt orange leather interior, the car shows wonderfully. The majority of the restoration was done to the car nearly 8 years ago and shows as well today as it did then. With less then 4,000 miles since the restoration, the car has gotten all off the issues worked out of it and is simply a turn key car that you can drive anywhere at 60+ mph. The car was stripped to bare metal during the paint process and finished in black lacquer paint. The paint is in great condition and shows no cracking or major blemishes. The power black soft top is trimmed with the same burnt orange that the interior is finished in which is a very nice touch. The top headliner is finished in tan. In the rear there is a custom continental kit that was made for the car. All stainless and chrome is new going around the car and free of any pitting or damage. Inside, the burnt orange leather interior looks great and is just over a year old. The carpet was custom made and in perfect condition. It fits tight as it did from the factory. All gauges are in good working order as well as the rare wonderbar radio and power antenna. The entire car has been rewired from front to back and is still on the original 6 volt system. All of the hydraulics for the power top have been relocated under the rear seat for easier maintenance. Under the hood, there is a correct 327 Cu In inline 8 cylinder motor. There has been an updated 4bbl manifold and carb added for increase power as well as the optional and hard to find air cleaner which makes the car run much quieter. The majority of the parts under the hood are new and include the fuel pump, generator, battery, radiator, water pump and brake booster. The car has also had power steering added. The underside is very solid with no rot that we have found. You will find all new lines under the car for brakes and fuel. The newer wide white wall radial tires are all in great condition and are wrapped around chrome wire wheels that show no pitting. The current mileage shows 65,207 and the VIN number is 24693114.
