Description

Ford Motor Company introduced its Deluxe Ford line in 1938 as an upscale alternative to bridge the gap between its base model (usually called Standard)and luxury Lincoln offerings. The "Deluxe" name was used intermittently before and after this to specify an upscale trim, but the Deluxe Ford line was differentiated as a separate "marquee within a marquee" with separate styling and pricing through 1940. During 1939, Ford had five lines of cars: Ford, Deluxe Ford, Mercury, Lincoln-Zephyr, and Lincoln. After the war, this was simplified to Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln. The Deluxe Fords of 1938 featured a more sloping hood and ornamental heart-shaped grille. This look was passed on to the standard line for 1939, as the Deluxe Fords gained sharp v-shaped grilles with vertical bars. The standard line once again inherited the Deluxe look for 1940, this time with body-colored vertical bars. The 1940 Deluxe Ford featured a three-part grille with horizontal bars. This particular 1940 Ford Deluxe Convertible has gone through an extensive nut and bolt restoration at a cost of nearly $40,000. With less then 100 miles on the complete restoration, this wonderful driving convertible is as new as it was when it rolled off of the assemble line at Ford. With the 85 horsepower flat head V8 connected to the 3 speed manual transmission, the car drives as nice as it looks. The car has been with the same family since new and the son in law finally decided to restore the car after his father in law passed. The exterior of the car is very solid with no imperfections to be found. The convertible soft top is new and in great condition. The top has been upgraded to a electric and goes up and down with no issues. All of the hydraulics perform with no issues. Both front and rear bumpers are in great condition with no imperfections. The wipers have also been upgraded to electric from vacuum. Inside, the diamond pleated interior looks great. It is nicely upholstered in two tone tan and brown. The colors continue to the door panels. There has been an under dash heater installed. All of the paint inside looks great and the steering wheel shows no cracking. All gauges are in good working order as are the lights. Under the hood, the 85 horsepower flathead V8 runs great. The motor and 3 speed manual transmission has been freshly rebuilt at a cost of over $3,000. The rebuild included engine, transmission, clutch, rear axle, seals, brakes (wheel and master cylinder, drums, shoes and all lines), suspension and exhaust. The engine compartment is very clean and original. The underside of the car is as clean as the top. From top to bottom, the car looks new. There are over $40,000 in receipts for the restoration of this car. The VIN number is 185453933 and the car is being sold on a clean Missouri title.
