Description

The first Ford Mustang rolled off the assembly line on March 9, 1964. On April 17, 1964, the Mustang was introduced to the public at the World's Fair in New York. Before the day was over, Ford had secured 22,000 orders for the vehicle at dealerships across the country. As such, the Mustang was considered an instant hit with consumers. Contrary to popular belief, the first model year for the Ford Mustang was 1965. Mustangs produced between March 9th and July 31st of 1964 are often coined the 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang by enthusiasts. Initial production of the second round of Mustangs began on August 17th, 1964. Both the original production Mustangs and the second run are technically considered 1965 Mustangs by Ford. That's not to say there aren't differences between the two. The first Mustangs produced feature unique characteristics that set them apart from those produced after July 31st, 1964. For instance, the 1964 1/2 Mustang features a generator charging system for the battery as well as a generator charge light. It also features either a U-Code, F-Code, or D-Code engine. Additional highlights include a horizontal speedometer layout (also found on 1965s), similar to the one on the Ford Falcon. The Mustang was, after all, based on the Ford Falcon. Thus, the early models carried over some of these features. This particular car is finished in its original colors of Caspian blue with white soft top and black standard interior. This is truly one of my favorite color combinations that these cars ever came in. The paint is in great condition with no major blemishes to be found with the exception of a few very small touch ups. We have found only one very small bubble to the passenger side door that is about the size of a penny. The rest of the car is extremely solid. The white convertible soft top goes up and down with no problems and is not power. The top appears to be brand new. Both front and rear bumpers are in great condition with no damage showing to either. Inside, the original style black vinyl seats are in great condition and have been reupholstered. The carpet, door panels and kick panels are all new as well and in great condition. The dash is solid as is the steering wheel which shows no cracking. All gauges work as they should with the exception of the tach. Even the clock works! This car does have the optional Rally-Pac gauge package which looks great. There has been seatbelts installed in the front and rear. Under the hood, the 289 V8 runs great and starts with no problems. Connected to the C-4 automatic transmission and 3.00:1 gears in the rear, the car is a pleasure to drive. We recently had the car on a 50 mile trip with no issues. This is a great running and driving car that I would trust to take anywhere. The motor has power steering and the original style generator which was a 19641/2 exclusive. The engine compartment is very clean with no signs of damage or rot. The underside is very solid as well with no rot that we have seen. The VIN number is 5F08D144011 and the current mileage shows 15,969. The car is being sold on a clean Oklahoma title showing that it has been with the same owner for the last 10+ years.
