Description

Chevrolet spent some $26 million -- big money, for those times -- tooling up for the 1937 models, so it comes as no surprise that the 1938 Chevrolet line was little changed. A restyled grille and enlarged hood louvers were the most obvious external signs of change in the 1938 Chevrolets. The smart new diecast grille, featuring horizontal bars in place of vertical ones, was the work of Frank Hershey, who had come to General Motors a few years earlier to design the handsome 1933 Pontiac. But in most respects, Agramonte's beautiful 1937 design was left intact. Mechanical changes for 1938 were minor, yet significant. Heavier valve springs were fitted to the engine; the water pump was improved; a voltage regulator was added; a sturdier, yet smoother, clutch was adopted; the worm-and-roller steering, formerly confined to the Master DeLuxe models, was extended throughout the line; and thanks to a new axle, the rear tread was widened from 57 9/16 inches to 59 inches. This particular two door sedan has gone through a very extensive restoration a number of years ago to make it what you see today. Finished in a beautiful shade of blue with red pin stripe, the car is stunning going down the road. The paint is in very good condition with no major flaws to speak of. Nicely accented by red pin stripes, the front grill is in great condition and shows no damage. The same goes for the front and rear bumpers which have been rechromed. The optional fog lights in the front are a nice touch and really set off the front of the car. Inside, the interior has been reupholstered in the original style and material from when the car was new. The seats are all in great condition as is the carpet, door panels and headliner. All of which appear to be new. The dash shows no signs of damage and all gauges appear to be in good working order. The car does have the optional heater under the dash. The wipers, lights and gauges all work with no issues. Under the hood, the six cylinder runs great and very smooth. With a push of the button, the car starts right up and goes down the road with no problems. The three speed transmission shifts as it should and the clutch is strong. The wide white bias ply tires are all in great condition and appear to be newer. They are wrapped around red wheels with hubcaps and beauty rings. The underside of the car is very solid. There is no undercoating under this car which lets you see that there is no rust that we found. In the trunk you will find a full size spare a with matching bias ply tire. There is also a vintage air pump, jack and tool kit. The VIN number is 5HB0112103 and current mileage shows 63,210.
