Description

The 1939 model year pick up truck featured the first totally new cab since 1935. The new front end, featuring an oval grill, was a pioneering design that featured the first conventional front opening truck hood in the industry. The truck also featured a modernized instrument panel and a completely redesigned pick up bed, the first since 1931. In 1939, Ford marketed its stakebed truck as a "Strongly built unit that will make money - and save money - for its owner. Very rugged. Adaptable for many uses." This was defiantly the case for the '39 Ford Stakebed. This truck was built as a work truck for the buyer that didn't need or want the larger 3/4 or 1 ton trucks. These trucks were great to get around town with and also use on the farm. The forward stake sections on each side have large metal advertising panels attached to advertise your business. These trucks were built on a heavy gauge steel platform like the larger Ford Trucks to give it its sturdiness and ruggedness the customers demanded. This particular truck has gone through a meticulous restoration to make it what you see today. The body and bed were both taken off of the frame during the restoration. The frame was stripped and painted black before the body and bed were both placed back on it. This was an original, solid, California truck before the restoration started. The body is straight with no bubbling or rot to be found. Fenders are solid along with the new wood bed that is finished nicely in the original style oak slats. On the drivers side, there is an original style advertising board to display your company name. This can be removed by 4 bolts if desired. Inside, the truck is finished nicer then it when it came from the factory. The newly upholstered black vinyl bench seat looks great and shows no wear or tears. Gauges are in good working order as well as the horn, headlights and taillights. The gauges do appear to be original for the truck. Headlights and taillights are both in good working order. Under the hood, you will find the original style flat head V8 that runs great. This appears to be the correct 85 horsepower flathead that came with the truck in 1939. We have not verified any numbers though. With a push of the button, the truck fires right up and runs down the road with no issues. This truck is an absolute joy to drive and performs as it did when it came from the factory. Steering is straight, brakes are strong with no pull to either side and the transmission shifts through the gears with no grinding. The underside of the truck is as nice as the top. The chassis has been painted black and is very clean and detailed. There is a full size spare under the oak bed floor. The truck comes with a set of the original manuals and sales brochures. The wheels have been painted to match the truck and are covered by V8 hubcaps and trim rings. They are wrapped with new bias ply tires that are all in great condition. This is a great truck to advertise your business or to simply cruise around in on the weekends. The current mileage shows 43,586 and the VIN number is 184726583. The truck is being sold on a clean California title showing that the previous owner has had the truck for the past 7 years.
