Description

The 1963 Imperial models saw the split grille disappear again, replaced by a cluster of chromed rectangles, and the taillights were now inside the rear fenders, in ordinary fashion, for the first time. In addition, the designers redesigned the rooflines of the two-door hardtops, giving them a similar appearance to the four-door models. 1963 models were the last Virgil Exner-styled Imperials, however Elwood Engel began applying some of his own touches to them. While most critics of automobile styling rate the 1955 through 1959 Imperials highly, the styling in this period was more questionable, which was reflected in Exner's increasing struggles with the Chrysler president and board 14,121 cars were produced for 1963. Of those 14,121, only 749 Imperial coupes were built. This Imperial Custom car is an extremely original example showing only 106,000 original miles on this California car. The car is mostly original and recently gone through extensive mechanical reconditioning at the cost of over $10,000. The car has only been driven approximately 2,500 miles since this major rebuild. The Ivory paint on the car appears to be original and very well preserved showing only a few nicks and dings overall. Both front and rear bumpers look great and appear to be original for the car. The rest of the stainless and chrome on the car looks good with no major dents or dings. There is a scrape on the passenger side front cowl at the corner where it meets the hood. Inside, the gold interior appears to be almost all original. The seats look great with no wear to be found and appear to have been recovered in 1990 by the reciepts. The carpet appears original as well as the dash and headliner which are both in very good condition. There dash does show some minor buckling. The steering wheel is in good condition and shows no cracking. Lights, blinkers, horn and wipers all work with no issues along with the emergency brake and release when you put the car into gear. The seat is 6-way power and does work with no problems. Under the hood, the 413 Cu In V8 runs great and is very clean. In 2008, the motor went through a complete rebuild when the mileage showed 103,776. During the rebuild, thousands of dollars were invested in the car repairing different mechanical pieces. This included rebuilding the A/C and heat systems, removing and cleaning the fuel tank, parking brake repair and power window repairs. Just this came to a total of almost $10,000! We have thousands of dollars in other receipts for the car that shows nothing was overlooked. From major repairs and rebuilds all the way down to fixing the glove box light, there are records of it. These receipts date back to 1989. On the road the car drives like new. With the front end being freshly rebuilt and aligned, the car goes down the highway with no issues. The chrome wire spoke wheel's are correct reproductions and are wrapped with whitewall radials that are all new. In the trunk, you will find the original instructional stickers, full size radial spare tire and jack. The trunk is nicely carpeted and very solid. This is a wonderful two door Imperial that will need nothing to make it a great weekend toy or a wonderful addition to any collection. I wouldn't hesitate driving this car any distance. The current mileage shows 106,263 and the VIN number is 9133141340. The car is being sold on a clean California title where it has been for the last number of years.
