Description

A new batch of Windsor models were released by the Chrysler Corporation in 1953. Continuing in rear wheel drive form, the engine was situated in the front. This time around a V8 engine powered the Chrysler Windsor. Capable of a very secure ride, the new Windsor featured a 230 bhp and torque of 310 ft-lbs V8. A 3-speed automatic transmission was now offered. Able to seat up to five passengers, the new Windsor was both roomy and comfortable. If you wanted to spend a bit more, you could up for the Newport option. Not much of a visual change was noticeable on the outside with this package with the exception of a small badge on the C pillar. The change came inside with a nicer, more luxurious interior. This particular 1956 Chrysler Newport has recently emerged from a San Francisco collection where it has been since 1988. Finished in Sand Dune Beige with a Geranium Red top and accents the paint is in very good overall condition. There are no major imperfections that we have found to the body which is very straight and free of bubbling or rot. The front and rear steel bumpers are in good condition overall with only some pitting and scratches showing. They are said to be original for the car. All of the chrome and bright work around the car has a very good shine to it with no major imperfections. Inside, the newer red and tan upholstery is in very good condition with slip covers on the front and back. The seats show some no major staining and have no tears or major wear. Carpets are all in good condition as well as the door panels which all appear newer. Dash is in good condition and all gauges are in good working order. All lights work inside and out as well as the wipers. The steering wheel does have a bit of cracking but is not falling apart. Under the hood, the 331 Cu In Spitfire V8 runs great and starts up with just a turn of the key. The engine is nicely detailed and very clean. The push button, two-speed PowerFlite automatic transmission shifts as it should with no problems. We have just went through and cleaned out the fuel tank in the car as well as replaced the wheel cylinders and front brake shoes. With all of this done, the car is a pleasure to drive on the road and brakes with no issues. Suspension is handled with an independent front suspension with coil springs and live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs. Brakes are hydraulic drum brakes all around with a wheelbase of 126.This is a great car that has years left in it. The current mileage shows 109,965 on the car and the VIN number is W561249. The car is being sold on a clean Missouri title but has a copy of the California registration that shows that the car has been with the same owner since 1988.
