Description

Cadillac's long-running V-8 got its first major revision in 14 years for 1963. Bore and stroke were unchanged, as were valves, rocker arms, cylinder heads, compression (still 10.5:1), and connecting rods. But nearly everything else was different: lighter, stronger crankshaft; a stiffer block weighing 50 pounds less than the previous one; ancillaries relocated to improve service access. While all this did little for performance, the revised 390 was much smoother and quieter. Then again, performance was already good. The typical '63 could reach 115-120 mph, do 0-60 mph in 10 seconds, and return about 14 miles per gallon. Most impressive was the near-silence at high speed. In this, many testers held Cadillac superior to Rolls-Royce. Styling departed from recent practice. Fins were lower than ever, the grille was bulkier, new outer body panels and side moldings created a more slab-sided effect, and the rear was more massive, with elongated vertical tail/backup-light housings. Prices rose only slightly for '63, so Cadillac remained an excellent value for the money. Standard equipment ran to Hydra-Matic, power steering, self-adjusting power brakes, heater, backup lights, and left remote-control door mirror. This 1963 Cadillac Sedan DeVille is finished in its original colors of Nevada Silver with Gray interior. This is an original Montana car that has been there all of its life. We have registration and tax receipts dating back to 1963 for the car as well as the original Cadillac window sticker that shows the large option list that this car came with. Options include White wall tires, soft ray glass, A/C, AM radio, 6-way front power seat, power headlamp control, door guards, power door locks, seat belts and cruise control. We have no documentation to state it, but we believe this to be a 33,699 original mile car as its overall condition looks the part. The exterior of the car has been repainted in the original color of Nevada Silver and looks very good. All of the chrome on the car and stainless trim look great with no pitting or damage. The only imperfection we have found is a small rust hole to the passenger side, front bumper. This spot is no larger then 1/2" tall as you can see in the photo. This is the only place where we have found rot on the car. The body is very solid and straight with no bubbling that we have seen. All door shut tight and the windows seal well and appear not to leak. The windshield does have a few small rock chips. Inside, the interior looks to be 100% original and in great condition. The seats look great with no major wear along with the headliner, door panels and dash. The only thing to note on the seats is a bit of staining which is not uncommon for a 48 year old car. The arm rest's do show some minor wear in the front. Carpet is good in the front and back with only some minor staining and is covered with the original floor mats. All gauges are in good working order along with the lights, blinkers and horn. The car is highly optioned with cruise control, power headlamp control, 6 way power seat which works with no problems, power locks and windows. Under the hood, the big 390 Cu In V8 runs great and starts up with a turn of the key. The engine compartment is very original and clean with no damage to be found. This is an original A/C car that does still blows cool. There has been new hoses installed and appears that regular maintenance has been done to the car under the hood. In the trunk you will find a full size spare and jack along with the original style trunk matting. This is a wonderful driving car that performs like a 33,000 original mile car should on the road. No pulling to either side, smoking or abnormal noises to be found. The VIN number is 63B129785 and the car is being sold on a clean Montana title.
