Description

The '59 Caddy had it all -- looks, performance, and comfort. It stood as the ultimate symbol of success, impressive and -- yes -- controversial. The outrageous tail fins and jet pod taillights evoked either a love it or leave it attitude with the public. It is interesting to note that Maurice D. Hendry, author of Cadillac: Standard of the World, The Complete Seventy-Year History, refused to include a picture of the regular production '59 Cadillac in his book. He said that, "This year saw the tail fins reach a literally ridiculous height.... The fins had plenty of critics including this writer.... Nevertheless, the 1959s overall were excellent.... As cars -- rocket fins or not -- they were undeniably excellent." Of course, just about everybody knows about the monster fins on the '59 Cadillac. But how many have ever heard about the Cadillac designed around a Buick door? The 1959 Cadillac was. General Motors had gone through three expensive years of tooling up for new models and the head honchos wanted to trim costs. They decided to make the basic Buick front door a common interchangeable element throughout the GM C-body line. This was a tough directive because the door tapered rearward, but an order was an order and the Cadillac design team worked around it, turning out an unforgettable product in the process. This particular 1959 Cadillac Four Door Hardtop has recently gone through a cosmetic restoration that included new paint, all new interior, new tires and a new battery. The interior has been refinished in a custom red and black vinyl that looks great. The color combination goes throughout the car from the seats and door panels to the steering wheel and the trunk. Outside, the paint is new and looks wonderful. With only a few minor scratches and dings, the car has a great shine and luster. All of the stainless and chrome on the car looks very good and appears to be original for the car. There is some pitting to the window trim and mirrors. Both front and rear bumpers look great and are free of any damage. Both retain a very good shine. Inside, the seats have both been reupholstered in a red and black vinyl that looks great. The red piping around the seat is a very nice touch. The door panels are equally as nice as is the headliner and new black carpet which shows no staining or tears. The dash looks good and only shows some very minor buckling. There has been an aftermarket AM/FM CD player installed under the dash. All power windows work with no problems as well as the lights and blinkers. This is an original A/C car but it is currently not connected. Under the hood, the motor is very clean and has been recently painted. No damage to be found under the hood. There has been a new battery installed as well as a new alternator and exhaust. This is an A/C car but the compressor currently has no belt. The transmission shifts with no problems and goes down the road very smooth. The car has newer floor pans installed. The trunk has been reupholstered in the matching vinyl that the seats are finished in and looks great.
