Description

The Jaguar Mark X was the top-of-the-range saloon car built by Jaguar, and was originally aimed at the United States market. The Mark X succeeded the Mark IX as the company's large saloon model. The modern Jaguar face, four headlamps set into rounded front fenders with a vaned grill, first appeared on the Mark X. The interior is the last Jaguar with abundant standard woodwork, including the dashboard, escutcheons, window trim, a pair of large book matched fold out rear picnic tables, and a front seat pull-out picnic table stowed beneath the instrument cluster. The Mark X was the first Jaguar saloon to feature independent rear suspension. It used a wider-track version of Jaguar's IRS unit first seen on the E Type, which was subsequently used on Jaguar vehicles until XJ-S production ended in 1996. Front suspension used double wishbones with coil springs and telescopic dampers. This particular car is an original California car that was a one owner car until 2003 when it was sold to the next owner in Ventura California that invested almost $80,000 into the car. During the restoration the car was stripped down and repainted, the wood inside was all redone and the leather seats were also recovered. New Wilton wool carpets were installed as well as new chrome wire wheels. The transmission has been updated to a newer, XJ6 - 3 speed which makes driving much easier around town. The paint on the car is in wonderful condition with no flaws to speak of. The body is extremely straight on this big body Jaguar and all doors shut tight, with ease. Both front and rear bumpers look great and have both been rechromed. All of the steel trim and chrome around the car looks great with no imperfections as well as the front grill. Glass is free of cracks and chips. All four wheels are newer chrome wires that look great and are wrapped with newer radial tires. Inside, the interior is all new and has been completely reupholstered. The carpet, seats and headliner all look better then when the car was new. Real wood trim accents the interior and looks incredible. The rear picnic tables look great as well. Both front seats look nearly perfect with no imperfections. The soft leather is in great condition and is new. Gauges are all in good working order as well as all lights, blinkers and accessories. Under the hood, the original 6 cylinder (ZA1780-9) runs great and very smooth. Even on cold days, the car starts up with no problems and no choking. The engine compartment is nicely detailed and very original. This is an A/C car that works with on problems. The A/C was added a few years ago and is a very nice touch to the car. The XJ6 3 speed automatic transmission shifts with no problems and lets the car go down the highway at normal speeds with little effort. The delimiter switch to the left of the steering wheel is no longer functional with the new transmission. The underside of the car is very solid with no rot that we have seen. There has been a light coat applied to prevent any future rust from starting. We are selling this car for a client of ours who purchased the car out of Montana. The current mileage shows 50,639 and the VIN number is 350425BW.
