Description

For 1968, Cadillac left alone the broad hidden headlamp eggcrate grille distinctive vee'd back window, knife-edge fenderlines, and small backward-sliding rear-quarter windows in the Eldorado. Wipers, however, were newly concealed by extending the hood 4.5 inches toward the cowl. The Eldorado had the front parking lamps located on the leading edge of the fenders where they were mounted vertically. The design of the lens for the front cornering lamps (formerly vertically ribbed) was modified. Also for 1968 came a new 472-cid V-8 with 35 more horses than the 429-cid engine it replaced and 45 more torque to reach a thumping 525 lbs/ft torque. It was designed mainly for easier emissions control in that first year of federal smog standards. Now it was possible to spin the front-driven wheels on smooth, dry surfaces. Cadillac proudly noted that most engine accessories bolted rigidly to the block, rather than being attached by brackets, and boasted about the new V-8's two-million miles of testing. Though base price jumped some $330, due mainly to the new safety and emissions gear, Eldorado production improved by nearly 37 percent for the model year, reaching over 24,000 units. This particular '68 Eldorado is finished in the original color of arctic blue with blue interior and is a 2 owner, 26,000 ORIGINAL mile car! This car was originally purchased at Thompson Sales Company in Springfield Missouri on July 16, 1968. It stayed with the original owner until April 22, 1976 when it was purchased by the owner of an electric company in Springfield where it has been until we purchased the car in October of this year. We have all original manuals for the car, owners protection plan, original jack and original styrofoam jack case. This is an original car that has all original interior, carpet, headliner and engine. Finished in the original arctic blue, the paint does have some chips and scratches but is all original and has never been touched up. The paint shows very well for being 32 years old. We have recently buffed the car out and it came to a nice shine. Both front and rear bumpers have a great shine to them with no damage showing to either. The chrome and bright work around the car looks great with no major spots of pitting or scratches. While not perfect, they are only original once. Inside, the interior looks as good as you would expect from a 24,000 mile car. The seats and carpet look excellent with no major wear to be found. The headliner does have three small holes. Dash, steering wheel and door panels all look great with no major wear. All lights, blinkers, wipers, horn and original AM/FM radio work with no problems. The car does have A/C but is currently not blowing and in need of a charge. Under the hood, the huge 472 Cu In V8 runs great and fires right up with a turn of the key. The big V8 has a ton of power and makes this car cruise down the highway at 70mph all day long. The motor is very clean and original with no aftermarket modifications being added. The motor runs very smooth with on stuttering or smoking. The underside of the car is very solid with no rot that we have found. Tires are all in good condition and are bias plies. The car has always been stored in a dry garage. The current mileage shows 26,591 and the VIN number is H8310570. The car is being sold on a clean Missouri title showing that the previous owner has had the car since 1976.
