Description

Bowing in late 1988 for the '89 model year, the Porsche Carrera 4 -- "4" for four-wheel drive -- looked like most any recent 911 except for smoother bumpers and side sills. But appearances here deceived more than usual. As a direct descendant of the awe-inspiring twin-turbo 959, the "C4" was nothing less than the vanguard for what amounted to a second-generation 911 design. Indeed, it was developed as a separate program, Project 964, and was said to be 85 percent new. That it was, starting with a unique floor pan shaped to smooth airflow beneath the car, plus 959-inspired all-round coil springs with integrated tubular shocks (albeit one per wheel). Rear semi-trailing arms and front struts on lower wishbones continued. A bore-and-stroke job -- to 100 mm/3.94 inches 76.5 mm/3.01 inches -- took the production 911's normally aspirated air-cooled flat-six from 3.2 to 3.6 liters. Engineers also applied reshaped combustion chambers, revised intake manifolds, twin-plug ignition, and ultra-high 11.3:1 compression. In American-market trim, the Carrera 4 produced 247 horsepower at 6,100 rpm -- a gain of 34, and less than 40 shy of the vaunted Turbo -- plus 228 pound-feet of torque at 4,800 rpm. This particular 89 Carrera 4 is a local, 4 owner car that is only showing 75,000 original miles and comes with a clean Carfax! This is a very clean, no stories car that is one of the cleanest Carrera 4's I've ever seen. The seats show virtually no wear, books, manuals and tools are all there, A/C blows cold, you just can't ask for more! Outside, the car is finished in its original color of red which looks great. It appears that no paint work has ever been performed to the car. There are some minor chips to the front bumper and front of the hood, which is common for these cars and shows that it is the original paint. No other damage is visible anywhere on the car. The paint is nearly perfect all around and retains a great shine. This is an obvious well taken care of car that has never seen the elements. Inside, the black leather seats look nearly perfect with no major wear to be found. The drivers side seat bolsters both look great and show no major wear. Dash is solid with no buckling or cracking. Door panels look good as well as the carpet, headliner and kick panels. All gauges are in good working order as well as all lights, blinkers and wipers. The original stereo has been replaced with an aftermarket AM/FM/CD player which sounds great. A/C and heat both work with no problems. The twin plug 3.6 liter flat 6 in this car is an incredible motor. Turn the key and the car fires right up with no issues and runs out very smoothly. No drips or leaks that we have seen and is dry underneath. The 247 horsepower propels the car to 60 in just a hair over 5 seconds and through the quarter mile in under 14 seconds. The air box and filter have been upgraded to a K&N unit which helps the motor breath easier. Other then that, the motor appears to be completely stock and is extremely clean. In September, 2005 at 59,000 miles, the car had a full, major service performed by GLB Motorworks here in St. Louis. We have all receipts for work done by GLB. The car comes with all original manuals, tools, tool roll, Haynes manual, first aid kit, jack and emergency roadside kit. With only 75,000 original miles, clean Carfax and documented service, this is everything you could want from a Carrera 4. VIN number is WP0AB0961KS450138 and the car is being sold on a clean Missouri title showing the last owner had the car since 2007.
