Description

GM redesigned its A-body line for 1968, with more curvaceous, "fastback" styling. Gone was the pillared coupe, leaving a two-door GTO hardtop and convertible, again with the best dash layout in supercar land. Curb weights were up about 75 pounds over '67, but the wheelbase was shortened from 115 inches to a nimbler 112. This particular 1968 GTO convertible features the highly coveted and correct solar red exterior with black top and red interior. This is an extremely high optioned car that's options include 4 speed manual transmission, retractable headlamp covers, remote outside mirrors, hood mounted tach, Rally II wheels, console, electric clock, power steering, disc brake front, power seat, A/C, and the ride and handling package. All of this is documented by full PHS documentation. Outside, the car looks great. The Solar Red paint is in excellent condition with no major flaws to be found. The black soft top is new as well as the glass back window which are both in great condition. The front eurostyle bumper is free of any damage or flaws as well as the chrome bumper in the rear. All the glass is in good condition with no cracks or chips. Inside, the interior is finished in its original color of red and looks great. The front buckets show no major wear and have been reupholstered. The same goes for the rear bench seat. The drivers seat is power and is a very rare option. The carpet and dash pad both look very good with no major imperfections to either. All lights, blinkers, wipers and gauges work with no problems as well as the original style AM radio. The A/C blows but not cold. Under the hood, the 400 Cu In, 350 horsepower V8 runs great and is connected to the correct 4 speed manual transmission. The clutch is strong and the transmission shifts with no problems. On the road the car has tons of power and goes down the highway straight and true with no pulling to either side. The engine bay is extremely clean and has been updated with a chrome air cleaner and valve covers. In the trunk, there is no rot to be found and it comes with a full size spare, jack and convertible boot cover. The underside of the car is very solid with no rot to be found. There is some very minor undercoating applied to the underside. Currently the car shows 11,292 miles and the VIN number is 242678P172572. The car is being sold on a clean Missouri title. The previous owner has had this car in the state of Tennessee since February of 2000.
