Description

Dodge produced its first prototypes of dedicated military trucks in late 1939: the 1/2 ton 4x4 VC series. Production of the VC series started in 1940. At the outset of World War II, Dodge produced the G-505 WC 1/2 ton series of military light trucks in 38 individual models, thousands of some models were produced, while only a few of some others were made. The VC3 is a bare bones 1939 Dodge truck with a brush guard, pintle hook, rear bumperettes, a straight front bumper along with two slip hooks, and olive, drab paint. To this has been added a canvas top over the pickup box. This was accomplished with a front, center and rear bow. Hooks were attached to the box so that ropes attached to the canvas (tarpaulin) could be tied. This truck was recently purchased out of a very prominent private military collection and is in stunning condition. The truck has gone through an older restoration that still shows extremely well today. With only 133 miles since the restoration, the truck is in fantastic condition and ready for any reenactment that you want to take it to. The olive drab paint on the truck is nearly perfect with no major imperfections or blemishes that we have found. The canvas top is new for the truck and looks great. There has been slip hooks installed to secure the top which is capable of withstanding 70mph on the highway. The wood bed looks great with no rotting and has been painted the same color as the rest of the truck. Inside, the seat is newly upholstered and looks very good with only one very small tear on the passenger side. Floors are solid as well as the dash and trim inside of the truck. All gauges are new and work with no problems. The truck is still on the original 6 volt system and the battery is under the drivers side floor. Under the hood, the inline 6 cylinder runs great and without any issues. The truck goes down the road as smooth as expected from one of these monsters and will do 55 mph on the freeway in 4th gear. Under the truck is extremely clean and heavy duty. The monster transfer case works as it should as does the 4 wheel drive. The truck currently only shows 133 miles and that is since the restoration. The VIN number is D42485182 and is titled as a 1940 Dodge VC3. You will be hard pressed to find another truck like this and even rarer to find one that has 4 wheel drive.
