Description

The Triumph TR4 was a sports car built in the United Kingdom by the Standard Triumph Motor Company and introduced in 1961. Code named "Zest" during development, the car was based on the chassis and drive train of the previous TR sports cars, but with a modern Michelotti styled body. 40,253 cars were built during production years. The TR4 proved very successful and continued the rugged, "hairy-chested" image that the previous TRs had enjoyed. The push-rod 4 cylinder engine based on the early design of the Ferguson tractor engine, was continued from the earlier TR2/3 models, however the displacement was increased from 1991cc to 2138cc in the TR4 by using a larger diameter piston. Other key improvements over the TR3 included a wider track front and rear, slightly larger standard engine displacement, full synchromesh on all forward gears, and rack and pinion steering. This particular car has been with the same owner for the last 20 years and has been cherished to say the least. When we purchased the car from the gentleman, he was nearly in tears to seeing it go. It's been his love affair for 20 years and truly a member of the family. Recently, the car went through a mechanical restoration. The motor and transmission were both pulled and rebuilt as well as adding a new clutch assembly. The beautiful red paint on the exterior of the car shows very well and has virtually no blemishes. The car has been repainted within the last 5 years and shows well. The soft top on the car goes up and down smoothly, and seals tightly along with the tonneau cover which looks great. There is a slight imperfection on the right front fender where it meets the hood. Both bumpers look great with no major damage to either. The same goes for the roll bar and luggage rack. The interior of the car looks great, the vinyl seats and door panels look almost new and show no signs of wear. The carpet is equally as nice with no major stains of tears. The majority of the upholstery appears to be new and done within the past few years. The wood dash looks great, the wood has no peeling, cracking or rot. All the lights and blinkers work as well as all the gauges on the instrument cluster. The steering on the car is very tight and responsive, and the brakes work well. The engine, transmission, and clutch have all been rebuilt recently and it shows when you turn the key. No choking or pumping of the gas is needed. Just turn the key and the car fires right up emitting a great sound out of the aftermarket Ansa exhaust. The underside of the car shows no rust or rot of any kind and is very solid. The VIN number is CT35594L and it is being sold on a clean Iowa title. This is a fantastic driving Triumph that is sure to give you tons on enjoyment. Whether it be taking it to shows or driving through the winding hills with the top down. The car is a wonderful little European sportscar.
