Description

The 1959 Chrysler 300E is the fifth edition of the letter-series 300. Basically the same car as the 1958 300-D, but sported a horizontal-bar grille instead of the previous eggcrate and a 413-cid wedgehead V-8 instead of the fabled Hemi. Rear-end styling was altered in line with other '59 Chryslers. 1959 was a difficult sales year for the industry as a whole limited production, making this model a real find today, especially in the condition of this car. With only 550 of these 300E Hardtops made, this might be one of the finest in existence today. Better known as "The Big Brute", the Chrysler 300E, considered part of the New Yorker series, continued the tradition of luxurious, high-performance driving pleasure. Minor styling revisions and the use of a "wedge-shaped" combustion chamber engine were changes. The new engine was said to have performance equal to or slightly better than the 392 hemi engine which left no doubt as to the car's heritage. A 300 insignia was placed on the driver's side of the hood, in line with the headlamps. Swivel bucket seats were available and the red-white-blue medallion was positioned in its usual place. The letter "E" was added to the medallion to signify the new model as the 300E. This was the last year for separate body and frame design. This particular 300E is a well documented, 5 owner car that currently shows only 40,229 original miles. Originally purchased in Northern California, the car was with the original owner until sometime in the early 90's. The next owner, who lived in Colton California, doesn't remember the exact date he purchased the car but does know that it was in the early 1991 - 1992 range. He then sold the car in January of 1996. During the next three owners, the car went through a cosmetic restoration that included new paint and 14" wire wheels with Coker radials. This is a numbers matching motor but has had a cross ram intake installed with Edelbrock 4bbl carbs. The car does come with an original style Edelbrock dual 4bbl intake. The leather interior is nearly perfect with no major imperfections. The interior appears to be almost all original with no major rips or tears. The rear seat does have a small tear, less then an inch long. The dash and gauges all look great and the gauges all work with no problems as well as all lights, blinkers, horn and wipers. The little things that work in the car are the things that really set it off. The rear view mirror stays where you place it, the emergency brake works along with the e-brake light, all interior lights work when you turn them on from the switch or open the door and even the original clock works! The AM radio does turn on but only emits static when turned on. Under the hood, the 413 Cu In wedge block with dual 4bbl carbs runs great. The motor was completely rebuilt in 1997 and runs great. Under the hood is extremely clean with no damage that we have found. The motor is the original for the car and the numbers on the top of the pad are correct. The long ram intake is a very expensive and attention grabbing addition that the previous owner added and looks great. If you would like to go back to the original style dual 4bbl set up, there is an Edelbrock aluminum intake that is included. The underside of the car is just as nice as the rest of this 300. It has been lightly undercoated on a solid underbody. On the road the car drives perfectly. We have put over 100 miles on the car since we purchased it with no problems. There are some cars we get in that a description does no justice because the car just has to be seen to believe. This is one of them. It's an award winner that has been finished to every detail. Included with purchase is the original 1959 Chrysler handbook as well as the original owners manual and a folder full of receipts dating back to the 90's. The current mileage shows 40,228 which is actual for the car and the VIN is M591100314. The car is being sold on a clean Iowa title showing that the previous owner has had the car since 1998.
