Description

With the "Going Green" craze in full effect, many people are straying away from the use of fossil fuels and converting their cars to electric. If you don't want to spend countless days researching the best parts, trying to find a vehicle and worst of all, building it yourself, you have just found your vehicle. While there are a few electric converted vehicles out there, few if any have the classic styling as this car. This 1965 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was built and converted about 18 months ago by an electrical engineer down in Texas. Powered by an Advanced DC FB1-4001A double shaft series wound motor and 13 deep cycle marine batteries, this VW will cruise down the highway at 70mph! On a full charge, the car will go for around 30 miles all while cruising as smooth as a Cadillac. This conversion cost a total of $22,000. The paint on the car is in very good condition with no major imperfections that we have found. There is some minor chips around the doors and a small ding to the front nose. All the stainless trim and both bumpers look great with no damage or pitting to be found. The rubber around all of the new glass is new and looks great. This is a very solid body with no major spots of filler that we have found. Inside, the car looks almost identical to when it rolled off the showroom floor. There has been a gauge mounted between the speedometer and clock that monitors the volts and batteries. With the exception of this gauge and the newer AM/FM radio, the interior retains its stock look. Both front seats look very good with no major wear. The drivers seat does have two very small tears to the top of the seat. The backseat looks good and does fold down to reveal five deep cycle marine batteries behind it. The headliner and carpet are both new and in very good condition. Under the rear hood is the Advanced DC FB1-4001A double shaft series wound motor that propels this little car. All batteries were just recently replaced at a total of nearly $2,500 in December of 2009. These should be good for the next number of years. To charge the car, all you need is an extension cord to plug into the outlet that is kept just behind the front bumper. The gentleman that we purchased the car from was using it on a daily basis to and from work. He was also part of the North Texas Electical Auto Association and showed the car on a regular basis at numerous regional car shows. Included with the purchase of the car is a brand new custom manufactured triangular tow rig that mounts just under the bumper with quick release clips. This would be a perfect little toy to tow behind the RV! The VIN number on the car is 145421139 and the current mileage shows 10,269.
