Description

The 1955 Dodge was all-new with a longer 120 in wheelbase and 212.1 in overall length. They shared their basic mechanicals with the De Soto, but featured special styling. These cars lasted through the 1955 and 1956 model years before being replaced by the all-new 1957 design. There were six body styles and four trim lines for 1955 with the flagship model being the Custom Royal. All hardtop coupe and Custom Royal-only convertible models were called "Custom Royal Lancer", and the "Custom Royal" sedan gained the Lancer badge soon after its introduction as well. The Custom line featured unique chrome tailfins (although early model year cars went without this trim), special tail light surrounds, and an upscale interior. Backup lights were standard on the Custom line but optional on all others. The Custom Royal also featured the hemi 270 Super Red Ram engine. This particular car has had only two owners its entire life. Originally purchased 11-11-55 in Beeville Texas, the car has spent its entire life in the dry states of Texas and Oklahoma. Recently, the car has benefited from a body up restoration and looks exquisite. The car retains its original 270 Cu In "Red Ram Hemi" under the hood which runs great. Connected to the Powerflite automatic transmission, this is a fantastic driving example of the top of the line Dodge in 1955. The car has been upgraded with an aftermarket Vintage Air A/C system that works with no problems. The car is also running on a more dependable 12 volt electrical system now as well. The paint on the car has been refinished in its original color combination of Cameo Red with Sapphire White which looks fantastic. The paint was done in late 2006 on an extremely straight and solid body. There are no major spots of filler to be found anywhere on this car. The front and rear bumpers are both in near perfect condition along with the rest of the stainless trim around the car. All the glass is in good condition with no chips or cracks that we have found. Inside, the car has been completely reupholstered in its original colors of blue and white. With the red and white exterior, the blue interior looks great. The seats have all been recovered and the carpet is new. All of which look nearly perfect as well as the headliner which is new. The dash looks great and has had newer gauges installed for oil pressure, amps and a tachometer. All fit in the original spaces and look great. All lights and blinkers work as well as the under dash A/C which does blow cold. Under the hood, the original 270 Cu In "Super Red Ram" Hemi has runs great. We have receipts for a lot of work done to this car including rebuilding the carb, new brakes, water pump, fuel pump, all new ignition, mufflers, radial tires and shocks. The motor looks better then it did when it rolled out of the factory. Brand new paint and decals compliment the engine bay along with new wires and hoses. The underside of the car is very solid with no rot that we have seen to the floors or frame. In the trunk there is a full size spare and jack along with custom matting. The trunk floor is solid. All the wheels are in good condition and are wrapped with new white wall radial tires to improve driving. The wheel covers are also new and look great. The current mileage shows 100,861 and the VIN number is D55342747. The car is being sold on a clean Oklahoma title.
