Description

1955 Hudson MetropolitanVIN: E15985 RARE Hudson make of Metropolitan model Same California owner for last eight years Full nut-and-bolt restoration One of the world's top Metropolitans Correct Metropolitan hub caps and Generation II hood scoop After-market MW water temperature gauge Austin A40 inline four-cylinder engine on three-speed manual transmission When a rarity is found, it makes the collector proud. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is extremely proud to offer this rarely-seen 1955 Hudson Metropolitan you see before you. The proud Hudson badge above the grille shows that this Metropolitan is not from the mass-produced Nash variety but of the Hudson class. In 1954, Hudson and Nash merged to form the American Motor Company (AMC). Before that, Nash had already created the first Generation of the Metropolitan. Because of the merger, some Generation II Metropolitans carried a Hudson emblem as opposed to Nash. These Hudson Metropolitans carried a Hudson grille badge, hubcaps incorporating an "M" logo, a "bulls-eye" horn button design, and a plain spare wheel cover made. The first 10,000 Mark II Metropolitans were manufactured with British motor company Austin's A40 inline four-cylinder engine. Fisher & Ludlow, another UK manufacturer, produced the body work while Austin undertook the final assembly. This was the first time an American-designed car, to be exclusively marketed in North America, had been entirely built in Europe. It became a captive import - a foreign-built vehicle sold and serviced by Nash (and later by AMC) through its dealer distribution system. This Generation II '55 Hudson Metropolitan sits proudly in our showroom waiting for its proud next owner. This Metro has benefitted from a meticulous and exact nut-and-bolt restoration. The correct Canyon Red exterior boldly states how fine of a post-war automobile this is. The bright work is in excellent condition and will shine brightly in the afternoon sun on a pleasant Sunday drive. We will note, however, that the wipers are currently inoperable. The tires sit on the correct wheels and Metropolitan hubcaps, another feature that sets the rare Hudson Metros from Nash. The chrome hood scoop is also another unique characteristic of the second generation ofHudson Metropolitans. The interior is a fine vinyl and cloth combination that showcases the elegance of the mid-50s. An aftermarket MW water temperature gauge has been added below the steering wheel to help monitor the engine. A vinyl saddle cover helps protect the spare tire mounted on the rear. The original owners manual is included with purchase. An Austin A40 1,200-cc inline four-cylinder engine sits under the hood and helps this car run smoothly and adds to its value. It should be noted that this is a pristine example and considered true "show quality" and will surely win awards on a local and national level. The engine bay is correct and tidy and in wonderful shape. This rare Hudson Metropolitan is not an easy find, but we are your source if you desire this lovely rarity for your collection.
