Description

In 1936 Buick offered the choice of 6 Series 40 Specials. Of those, the rarest, with only 1,103 built, was the 3 passenger sport coupe. With its rare and unusual jump seat that folded down out of the rear, the car had room behind the seats for a third passenger. This is a mostly original car that has never gone through any kind of major restoration. The gentleman that we purchased the car from competed in numerous rallies with the car and NEVER failed to finish. Of those rallies, the most notable that the car entered in was the Great Race which it ran 5 times! Cosmetically, the car is in great condition. The paint is older and does show some spots of touchup, but overall it looks very good. The most notable spot to the body is to the bottom of the driver's side door where the paint is thin. Both front and rear bumpers are solid with no damage or pitting to either. The grill looks good as well as all of the handles. Inside, the seats, door panels and headliner are all new and come from Hampton Coach in Massachusetts. They are finished in the period correct material and look great. The dash still retains its correct period color of green that matches the exterior and look great. There has been a Timewise Rally Speedometer installed on the steering column that works with no problems. This car is truly ready for another run in the Great Race! There has also been a temperature gauge installed under the dash as well as a vintage Buick heater. Under the hood, the car retains its 1936 Buick inline 8 cylinder motor but internally it has been completely rebuilt. Among the new parts inside the motor are a 1949 crankshaft, 1949 pistons, 1949 oil pump, inserted bearings and a back up electric fuel pump. The car has been upgraded to a 12 volt system as well. The suspension has been improved by adding modern shocks and a rear sway bar. We recently went though the braking system and replaced all the wheel cylinders as well as the brake shoes. In the trunk, the car comes with a full size spare and a "road kit" is included in a box. This includes new wheel bearings, water pump, inner tube, belts, push rods, and much more. The underside of the car is very solid with no holes or rot that we have seen. The car has been in Texas for most of its life and with the previous owner for the last 12 years. Throughout his ownership the car has always been stored in a temperature controlled garage and been well cared for mechanically to say the least. The VIN number is 2835130 and the current mileage shows 50,363.
