Description

The 1949 Chrysler featured unique taillights with tall, narrow lenses mounted on chrome bases somewhat similar to Cadillac's already famous tailfin lamps. A massive rear deck console carried stop and backup lights, along with the license plate and deck lid handle. Mechanically, both Chrysler engines got higher compression, the six now rated at 116 horsepower, the 323.5-cubic inch straight eight holding steady at 135. The new key-start ignition was waterproofed for wet-weather reliability. And in an age when manufacturers gave almost everything trick names, Chrysler wooed its buyers with Safety-Level Ride, Hydra-Lizer shock absorbers, Safety-Rim wheels, Full-Flow oil filters, and Cyclebonded brake linings. From 1947 through 1952, the fluid coupling/3-speed manual transmission combination was standard equipment on all Dodge models and optional on DeSotos. These cars do not change gears "automatically," but can be held stationary in any gear without disengaging the clutch. They can also be started in any gear without slipping the clutch, although 3rd gear starts are painfully slow. This particular Chrysler Royal Club Coupe is a 99,000 original mile car that is mostly original! Finished in its original color of gray, the car retains all of its original trim, grill, bumpers and bright work. All of which are in good, original condition. The paint on the car is very good overall with only some minor scratches and dings. There is one spot of touch up below the drivers side door handle as you can see in the photo. Inside, the seats look great and have been recently reupholstered to match the door panels which are also new. The carpet looks very good and is finished in brown. The dash is solid but the steering wheel does have cracking under the cover. All lights are in good working order as well as the wipers. Under the hood, the inline 6 cylinder runs great and very smooth. The motor appears to be mostly original and never molested and in very good condition. The six cylinder is connected to the Chrysler fluid drive manual transmission that works with no problems. These cars do not change gears "automatically," but can be held stationary in any gear without disengaging the clutch. They can also be started in any gear without slipping the clutch, although 3rd gear starts are very slow. The underside of the car is solid overall with only some minor rust showing to the original floors. Nothing major, just some minor holes. The frame is solid with no rot or damage to be found. The current mileage on the car shows 99,021 and is said to be original. The VIN number is C4573223 and the car is being sold on a clean Iowa title.
