Description

Introduced in December 1956, three months after the traditional September model year start-up, the Ranchero was based on the standard and new for 1957 full-size Ford platform, specifically the short wheelbase Custom sedan, two-door Ranch Wagon station wagon and utilitarian Courier sedan delivery. Essentially a Courier with an open, reinforced bed, its own unique rear window and integrated cab and cargo box, the Ranchero was initially offered in two trim levels and, throughout the model run, was built on the corresponding automobile assembly line but sold as a truck through Ford's truck division. There was an extremely basic standard model, marketed to traditional pickup truck buyers such as farmers, and the Custom which picked up most of the options and accessories available on the Fairlane line, including stainless steel body side moldings and two-tone paint. Both standard and Custom could be ordered with any engine available for Ford cars, all the way up to the 352 cu in (5.8 L) "Thunderbird Special." The 1958 version would remain largely unchanged under the skin. Outside, the car received new front sheet metal and its new four-headlamp arrangement. This particular car, finished in its original color of Colonial white, is a highly optioned truck that has gone through a very thorough restoration. This is a fantastic driver and is in show quality condition. Both front and rear bumpers look great with no damage to either. The paint is in very good with no major scratches or imperfections to be found. The body is very solid with no major spots of filler that we have found. Both doors shut easily with even gaps all around. The windshield, door glass and rear window are all free of chips or cracks. Inside, the original colors have been kept the same but newly upholstered seat bench seat has been added which looks great. No major wear to the bench seat and it goes forward and back with no problems. The dash is solid with no buckling or cracks and the same goes for both door panels. The steering wheel is solid with no cracking. There has been an updated JVC AM/FM radio installed that sounds great and works with no problems. The aftermarket A/C system blows cold and works with no problems. Under the hood, the motor is believed to be the original 292 Cu In V8. Connected to the Fordomatic automatic transmission, the car is a joy to drive and will cruise comfortably down the highway at normal highway speeds. The engine compartment is very clean with no damage visible. There has been an upgraded Griffin radiator installed which keeps the truck cool on those hot summer days. The truck has power steering and A/C. This is a fantastic Ranchero that would make a great driver for the new owner. The truck is being sold on a clean Nebraska title showing that the previous owner has had the truck since May of 1996. The current mileage shows 20,277.
