Description

A Cadillac-like egg-crate grille similar to the 1971 Chevrolet Caprice and a metal rear trim molding highlighted the changes to the 1972 Monte Carlo, the final year for the first generation design. For 1972, the four-speed manual transmission was discontinued from the option list as a line in the Monte Carlo brochure describing its market position as a personal luxury car stated "Sorry, no four-on-the-floor." The standard three-speed manual and optional two-speed Powerglide automatic transmissions were offered only with the base 350 CID two-barrel engine, with the three-speed Turbo Hydramatic also available with this engine and a mandatory option with each of the optional engines. This particular Monte Carlo has gone through a complete restoration at the hands of the previous owner. During restoration the car got a complete paint job and all new rubber. The paint is in great condition with no major imperfections that we can see. The body is very solid with no major spots of filler. Both bumpers are original for the car and in good condition with no major pitting or damage. All the glass is free of cracks and chips. Interior trim was relatively unchanged from 1971 other than the availability of all vinyl upholstery with the standard bench seat in addition to the optional Strato bucket seats which this car has. The interior is completely new and looks great. Carpet, headliner, dash and seats completed the restoration of the inside of this car. There has been a new CD stereo installed which works great. Other options include tilt steering, power brakes, power steering and A/C. The wood trim on the dash looks great and shows no cracking. All gauges are in good working order and the A/C blows, but not cold. Under the hood, the car comes with the 350 Cu In V8 that runs great. The motor was rebuilt at the time of restoration but unfortunately we don't have any receipts for work done. The motor is nicely repainted in the original Chevy Orange and looks great. No damage to the engine bay or inner fenders. Turn the key and the car starts right up and goes down the road with no problems. I wouldn't hesitate driving this car any distance. The underside is very solid with no rot that we have seen. The same goes for the trunk that includes its original style matting, a full size spare and jack. The rally wheels are wrapped with new radials that have plenty of tread life left on them. This is a wonderful 1st generation Monte Carlo that is sure to please the new owner. VIN number is 1H57H2K623784 and the current mileage shows 31,250. The car is being sold on a clean Missouri title.
