Description

The 1971-1973 Mercury Cougar was the last of the Cougar pony cars. They shared an enlarged new body/chassis design with the third-generation Ford Mustangs, but rode a five-inch longer wheelbase. Unlike the Mustang, which still offered overt performance models, Cougar now tilted decisively toward luxury, though to no good sales effect until 1973, when a six-year sales slide finally ended. This particular car is probably one of the nicest '73 Cougars in existence. Having gone through a major restoration less then 2 years ago, this car look better today then it did when it rolled off of the assembly line on April 4, 1973. We have the Deluxe Mardi Report in hand that shows this car is one of only 60 with this paint and trim combination! It also comes with the optional Bronze Age Package. Other options include FMX automatic transmission, power steering, console, bumper rub strips, A/C, AM radio, body side moldings, the Dcor Group, Complete Tinted glass, and remote left hand mirror. This was a highly optioned car in its day and only shows 62,000 original miles today. Finished in the original color of Medium Copper Metallic, the paint looks great with no major imperfections that we have found. The car has had an Eliminator hood scoop installed that looks great paired with the matte black center stripe. The front and rear chrome bumpers both look great with no major pitting showing to either. The body is extremely solid with no spots of filler or bubbling that we have found. Inside, the interior is all original color in its original style of Tan Lugano Vinyl which looks as good as it did when it came out of the show room. The only spots of wear we have found is to the drivers side door panel which does show some cracking to the arm rest as you can see in the photos. With the exception of that area, the inside of this car looks great and practically new. Under the hood, the original 351 Cu In V8 runs great and has tons of power. Coming out of the dual exhaust, the car has a fantastic rumble. The engine compartment is as clean as you will find. No signs of dirt, grease or previous damage. Turn the key and the V8 fires right up with no smoking or hesitation. On the road, the car drives like a 62,000 mile car should. Very straight and smooth going down the highway with no pulling to either side. The underside is solid with no holes to the floors that we have seen. The wheels are wrapped with brand new Cooper Cobra radials that show only minimal wear. Hubcaps are new with no curb rash or damage showing. The car is being sold on a clean, Missouri title with VIN number 3F91H556753. The current mileage on the car shows 62,014 and is said to be original for the car. The car comes with the original owners manual, Protec-O-Plate, owner card and sales brocure.
